Mekboys

I am working on some old metal Mekboys. Very skeptical about how they are turning out. I am considering stripping them, and starting over. I'd rather not do that. Originally I was thinking about making their shirts yellow, but yellow was turning out to be a pain in the ass to paint. I mixed yellow and brown to get a basecoat for the yellow, but I still didnt like how it turned out. So I went over the yellow with an off mixture of blazing orange. I have been working on the assortment of tools the mekboys carry, and the weapons will recieve a lot more detailing than I usually put into weapons. Highlighting hasnt been touched on yet either. The painting has been a little messy so far... I am not so sure about the colors I am using. I am used to painting darker minis. I am going to be hitting the minis with badab black, allowing it to work its magic when it comes to crevasses, and hoping it will darken the orange. Any tips and suggestions would be very much appreciated.

I love those old minis. I've got a few of them on my painting shelf too. I would say use a different color for the different clothing material, the red shirts and blue pants are good, but the quilted fabric could be yellow or something.
Instead of doing a base coat for the yellow, try it with washes: Base layer=yellow, orange wash, red or muddy orange wash, then badab in the clevises. Something like that.

Keep it up, I'll be wathcing

Those don't look bad for a start at all.
It might help if we knew what paints/washes you have access to to further suggest steps you could take..but..

I'd say you should dry brush the flesh with a lighter green ,Goblin green for example, then hit it with Devlan Mud and highlight up.
For the clothing, same principle, using the appropriate washes and highlighting.
For the weapons & tools,I'd attempt a more rusted/worn look for them...perhaps a wash of brown inks to tone the brightness of the silver paint down, followed by some stippleing of browns/orange and a light boltgun dry brush.

The weapons and tools are nowhere near completion. Theyve been hit with chainmail silver, and have yet to be hit with a wash, or different colors. I am goig to go a little farther with these guys before restarting them, but if I do, I will try a more wash intensive job like was recommended.
