What are you trying to go for? Shooty, CC, or a combination of both?

You will probably want to pick up some Raiders if these are all the models you have. I would also suggest looking at what kind of troops you want because as of now you have 1 unit that is kind of "take what I have".

You really do want to pick up some Ravagers. Atleast two so you dont end up with that 1 dead ravager every game that never gets used.

Mandrakes can be lackluster but if you like them then you will find a way to make them work. I personally like wracks with Haemonculi* as they chew up just about anything with 4 toughness. Rerolling wounds really helps.

Mandrakes can be useful, but you need to build a list around using them. I'd infiltrate them 12" in front of my lines and zip a haemonculus over to them early on to activate their bale fire. It just depends on what strategy you want to go for to succeed in missions.

Dark Eldar list help

To the OP, ask yourself this: what will 5 mandrakes infiltrating do? They can't shoot. Unless you are going 2nd and your opponent moves towards you you're not assaulting 1st turn. Yes, they have a 3+ cover save if in cover but your taking a Ld test after losing 2 models - not hard to do with toughness 3. They can't shoot. They don't threaten vehicles. Truth be told, without posioned weapons or loads of attacks, they aren't much of a threat in CC. Good luck finding a small, weak enough unit that they can pounce on and then be able to shoot Str4 shots (yippie.)

If you want to use them because they look good that's great, just don't be under any false hope that they are effective.

Re:Dark Eldar list help

If you're looking for cc support try hellions over the reavers. I have a unit of reavers and, I may be doing something wrong but, once they get into combat they kinda just... die. They work much better hunting tanks back armor with their melta lances, or turbo boosting around the board with the cluster caltrops. Once they get into combat, it's all downhill from there.

Dark Eldar list help

Agreeing with Whatisntart. You really dont want tolock your reavers in close combat. I find reavers are akomg the best units in the new codex, and they work well doing pretty much anything EXCEPT getting locked into combat. Once they do that, they can be counted off as dead pretty fast.

a few examples of how to use them:

playing tankhunter with meltalances they can kill pretty much anything. But remember: Once you slow down to shoot chances are you will be counterfired upon and killed. Most tanks costs more then a 3-man squad with a heatlance, so use this as a one-shot unit to bring down more expensive / important stuff from your opponent.

Cluster Caltrops give you a very powerful "ranged" attack, that allows you to kill without slowing down. By not slowing down, you keep your awesome 3+ speed save (coversave), and you keep surviving. 3 reavers with cluster caltrops lands on 86 points, and they are VERY killy compared to points spent, even against marines. They are actually more killy then 10 warriors with splinter racks at half range, counting to points spent on them.

Use your reavers for mobile cover. If you are on a board with very little cover, this can be a problem for any DE player. But reavers fix this. When using your turboboost your reavers get 3+ cover save, so they are pretty safe. If you stop them in between your units and your opponents fireline, you give everything behind them a 4+ cover save. This allows for 50 % more of your army to survive, on an otherwise empty table.

what you dont want to do with reavers:

You dont want to have large squads. Get as many small squads as possible. You can use these to cover more of your own units, you can hunt several tanks at once and you can send them off in different directions. You have much more choices with 3 squads of 3 bikes, then 1 with 9.

You also dont want to fully equip them. Give your reavers EITHER a heatlance OR a Cluster Caltrops. You can not use both, since you can only use the caltrops if you are turboboosting, and turboboost = no shooting. Both options are very good, depending on how you want to use them. But combining them is just a waste of points.

You dont want to get your reavers in close combat. You will preferably be running small squads. A small squad does not pack a punch, and can most likely not kill anything it is up against (unless you are chasing down really week stuff. Even then, hesitate. You are also very week!). You MIGHT be able to use them as a support in a CC allready going on, but I'm still not convinced that is a good idea. Basically anything else is better in CC (yes, even warriors. You have more then 3 warriors, right?), so assaulting (even if there is nothing else to do) takes room away from a potentially better fighter to come in and support instead. Since you will not be getting these guys into CC, dont buy CC equip for them. In fact, buying a champion at all is usually not a good idea.

You also want to be very sure to end your movement well away from your opponent. If he can just turn around and assault you (if you stop within 12 " behind him) you will get killed almost instantly. If your opponent has flamers, be extra careful. Your speedy save is a coversave. Coversaves do not apply against template weapons. Flamers kill you even faster then termies in CC.
