Wood Elves Vs. O&G (Not New Ones) 2800pts.

Hello everyone. Last weekend I played in a small tournament at my game store for fantasy (only 6 people signed up due to a combination of people either out of town or just sick of playing Fantasy). I was able to shock my opponents by bringing Wood Elves i had literally bought two days before the tourney so much of what i ran was due to what i had (and was able to borrow from a friend) at the time. Overall i feel that i did very well in the Tourney barely losing to WoC and due to some bad luck and one tactical mishap lost to some beastmen pretty handily. This however is my game against some O&G and I hope you all enjoy :

My List:

Level 4 Spellweaver
*w/ Lore of Life, Rhymers Harp, Divination Orb

Highborn
*w/ Alter Kindred, Bow of Loren, Arcane Bodkins, Briarsheath, Shield, Luckstone

-(x5) x12 GG
*w/ Musician, x1 w/ Banner of Eternal Flame

-x39 Eternal Guard (* Mage Here*)
*w/ Full command, Razor Banner

-x5 Treekin

-x2 Treeman

His List (To Best Of Memory):

-Warboss on Wyrven
*w/ Lots of stuff so he could not die (you will see what i mean)

-x2 Ork Mages
*w/ x1 Level 2, x2 Level 4

-x35 Ork Boyz

-x129 Goblins Horde
*w/ Bows (dont ask me why he did this, no idea), Goblin BSB?

-x2 Bolt throwers and x1 doom diver

-x30 Black Ork Horde

-x8 Trolls
(Not River Trolls)

Board & Deployment: I am sorry i do not have any pictures and dont know where to get those programs that some of you guys use on here to make good battle reports but ill do my best (ALL FROM LEFT RO RIGHT AS FROM MY DEPLOYMENT:

-My side: Mysterious woods (one that killed me if i stayed in it) on left flank, Big Flat Hill in middle, WE woods on right flank.
-Middle: Temple that allowed every wizard within 6 inches to generate an additional x3 dice left middle, Hill on right middle, both decently close to center of board
-His Side: Hill on left, Woods in middle, Woods on right (Mysterious woods in middle was one that made goblins stubborn, one on right caused fear)

Deployment:

-Me: GG #1 behind woods w/ Eternal Flame banner (bad deployment for them), Highborne on left flank at edge of woods, TM #1 between hill and woods on left, Treekin In middle in front of hill, GG #2, #3, #4 on hill, EG Horde to right of hill, GG#5 in woods on right flank, TM #2 on far right flank.

-Him: Warmachines on left hill, x35 Ork Boyz to right with both mages, Trolls in Fungus Forest in the middle, Goblin Horde to right of woods (should have put them in it to make them stubborn), Warboss on Wyrven behind trolls, Black Orks on right fllank.

Magic: I got Dwellers Below, Flesh to Stone, Regrowth, Awakening of the Wood (after one of the girls that works in the hair salon next door walked by everyone was suffering the effects of this spell )

-He Got Dont know and does not really matter, Magic was pretty much non existant this game.

The game started and I got the first turn and choose to go first:

Aleron gazed silenty across the harsh cold highlands at the jabbering orc horde as they made their way from the rocky pass in the grey mountains. How he loathed the greenskilns and their ways, nothing but bloodshed and terror came from these beasts and his grim visage hardened even more as he knew many elves and fellow spirits would fall this day. His dread turned into shock however as a massive winged beast flew over the arranged horde and landed giving off a resounding roar that shook the very air around him and his host. Aleron calmly struggled to control the broiling unease he began to feel deep in his gut as the Warboss mounted on the back of the Wyrven waved his massive axe and pointed it at the Wood Elves. The battle had begun.

Turn 1 WE:
Calmly Aleron razed his magic Bow and gazed down the rune incarved shaft at the massive shapes of trolls lumbering thought a copse of trees. Around him the two mighty treemen accompanying the elves and treekin moved forward to take positions to counter the assaulting orks. On the right flank he spied the mage led eternal guard advance and watched as the spellweaver uttered an incantaion and tried to have the creatures of the deep to come forth and attack the orcs. However the spell fizzled as a dispel scroll was used and the dwellers below failed to appear.

The twangs of bowstrings filled the air and the sky darkened as arrows flew towards the lumbering trolls. A shout of excitment came from one of the Glade Guard units as two of the trolls stumbled and fell to the volley, their tough hides peppermarked by the powerful Elf Bows. On the right flank however the arrows directed at the black orks failed to find purchase in their tough armor. Aleron aimed carefully and sent five quick shots in the direction of the Wyrven and was rewarded with a bellow of pain as one of his arrows piereced its right eye.

Turn 1 O&G:

With a roar the Trolls ran foward through the woods as did the ork boyz on the left and the black orks on the right. The goblins advanced cautiously seeking to send some shafts into the Eternal Guard who had moved up to intercept them. The Warboss on the Wyrven moved behind the trees to better position himself to rush the archers on the hill its mighty mount roaring in anger and anticipation to feast on elf flesh. With siezur like shaking the ork mages attempted to cast a spell that would bring a giant foot of one of their gods down upon the eternal guard but thankfully the orks power was no match for the Spellweaver who dispelled it. The other ork, due to its excitement no doubt, failed to generate enough power to cast a spell. The bolt throwers on the hill fired at one of the mighty treemen but their whoops and cheers soon fell silently as one of the bolts threw wide and the second impacted on the treemans toughened hide and shatterred. The doomdiver fired as well and with a resounding cry of "weeeee!" the airborne goblin smacked into the treeman with a resounding wet slap (causing the surrounding elves to wince and the orks to laugh uproariously) and slid off the treeman in a gory mess. The goblin archers sent a small flurry of arrows at the Eternal Guard but living up to ork accuracy failed to find a mark.

Turn 2 WE:

Seeing the orks advancing the Eternal Guard backed up to better position themselves against the Black Orks and Goblins while the treeman on the right advanced up the right flank intending to make the black orks turn to face him. The Spellweaver this time targeted the trees the trolls were barely past and the branches came to life skewering one of the trolls on branches and causing another to be wounded. The other Treeman and treekin manouvered again preparing to charge the orks as they came thundering forward. At a shouted command from Aleron all the Glade Guard units except the one on the right flank turned to face the lumbering trolls in the center, the Glade Guard with the eternal flame banner raised theirn bows and shot their arrows first, whose tips burst into flame as soon as they were released at the lumbering horrors. With a roar of pain one of the arrows found its mark in the trolls flesh (*was told this negated their regeneration for the rest of the turn*) With their natural defenses weakened the remaining Glade Guard fired their bows and this time the power of the wood elves shooting was made known as every single troll fell their toughened hides pireced by countless arrows staining the ground around them with their foul ichor.

Aleron again targeted the Wyrven and Boss and again was rewarded with a below of pain from the might beast as another of his 5 arrows tore a bloody hole in one of tis wings. The goblins seeing the trolls get slaughetered promptly began to panic and fighting with tooth and claw to escape bolted from the field ignoring the Warbosses shouts of anger and treats to have his beast eat them all. (*This was a very bad blow for his army as it took away alot of his numbers and i am guessing his BSB, i am not really sure but he did re-roll his leadership so guessing this was the case*) The Glade Guard on the right once again fired at the black orks but were only able to lay one of the black orcs low.

Turn 2 O&G:

With a roar the Wyrven took to the air landing with a resounding thud in front of the hill and the archers stationed there, rasing his axe high he gave a battle cry which was answered with a resounding WAAAAAGGGHHH! The Orks on the left flank surged forward but failed to charge the treeman standing in front of them while Black orks on the other side thundered to the top of the hill facing the Eternal Guard but they as well failed to reach the Elvish spearmen with their charge (*Horrible rolling on his part *). The ork mages again failed to cast anything as the winds of magic were poor (*rolled double 1's and even with the additional channeling with one of his mages didnt do anything either*) Shooting however brought results as another crazy airborne goblin belly flopped into a unit of Glade Guard killing three of the elves in an astounding explosion of blood and bone. The unit however was unfazed and made ready to unleash another wave of arrows at the wyrven in front of them. The Bolt throwers again fired this time at the treekin and were rewarding with a groaing roar as one of the bolts sheard of a limb from the forest spirts.

Turn 3 WE:

Angered by the wound dealt to them the Treekin Thundered into the left flank group of ork boys and the mages while the treeman on the left flank turned to face the wyrven (*in case shooting didnt kill it*) The Eternal Guard sprinted forward and slammed into the black orks advancing on them while the treeman on the right turned prepared to support the spearmen. Magic again was uneventful as the winds of magic were very weak and the Spellweaver was unable to do anything with such little power. Shooting however more then made up for it as Aleron and all his archers targetting the Wyrven and warboss and a cheer went up from the elven host as with a screech of pain the wyrven was piereced by countless arrows and fell. However the Warboss, unscratched and angered vaulted from the back of its dead mount and glowered at the Glade Guard before it prepared to charge in and slaughter the archers for their accuracy.

In combat the Treekin began to slaughter the orks opposing them killing the level 4 mage and 8 orks with powerful blows of their gnarled limbs. In return the Orks hacked at the trees and were able to bring the already wounded one low. Panicked by the loss of their high mage the orks tried to flee but were run down by the thundering treekin who butchered the unit in a shower of pulped green meet and dark blood. Finished with their slaughter they turned to face the now cowering and sweating goblin warmachines and their crews. The Black Orks and Eternal Guard traded blows with the qucik striking elves taking down 13 of the massive orks while in return only 5 eternal were slain (*Rhymers harp with Eternal Guard = Awesome!*)

(*Note: At this point my opponent conceded stating the fact there was no point in continuing due to the fact that my treeman would be joining the eternal guard combat and with his warboss the only thing facing down a treeman and 48 archers said it would be pointless. The Following has been written for fluff purposes*)

Aftermath: I thought this battle went really well and frankly i have to thank my opponents inexperience and some good rolling on my part for the reasons for winning the game. My opponent did not quit ungraciously either, he just thought there was no point in continuing and also wanted to check out a great battle going down between some Empire (my twin) and some beastmen at the neighboring table. A good guy, just kind of new to the game of Warhammer and spent the rest of the time wating for our next opponent talking about what might be better and commenting on the games around us. A great Start with my wood elves and unfortunately the only win i was able to garner out of thre games at this tournament. Again any comments and thoughts are appreciated, thanks again mates!

Very nice, I'm glad your eternal guard had a strong game. I play a smaller unit than you, but most people don't like them. Congrats on the win

Go eternal guard, that combo is probably one of the best ways for the WE death star, especially when the armor piercing banner or the unbrakeable banner is thrown into the unit.
