Anyone play Legends of the Old West?

Came across this game at Con of the North in Saint Paul last weekend. The guys there had a fabulous board. ( Cotton Gulch by Terrain Specialies ) I did not get to play in the game due to how popular their games are, but I did play in a Samurai game using a similar rules set. I love the look of this game and from what I read online, it looks like they use a campaign system similar to Mordheim.

What I'm looking for is if anyone out there has any experience playing the game. Maybe what resources online and in print their is for this game. And any other usefull tips you may have.

Thanks in advance and here is a link to pictures of that great board. Check it out they are cool.

http://2centson40k.blogspot.com/2011/02/legends-of-old-west.html

The game isn't what I imagined from previous mentions, it's actually the sort of wild west skirmish game I would be interested in.

I know that several people make old west style figures and scenery. There's one person that does a fair few UK wargames shows who makes a large amount of resin scenery including a lot of buildings for the wild west. Could be expensive buying a whole town though. Companies doing Old West figures include Black Scorpion, Foundry, Artizan, Old Glory and Honourable Lead Boiler Suit (they are 40mm)

I haven't played it nor heard of it but interest is certainly piqued. The example table looks pretty good and I like the idea of recreating a Western film shoot-out in miniature.

It's a good game. It is based on the LotR game engine, but has tweaked it and improved it.

You can buy it direct from Warhammer Historical (a division of Forgeworld, itself a division of GW) here: http://www.warhammer-historical.com/acatalog/Legends_of_the_Old_West.html

There used to be a Yahoo group back in the day but I can't find it now.

The basic game is based around a Mordheim-style campaign system for your "Posse". The "Blood on the Plains" expansion introduced cavalry rules and posses for 7th cavalry and Plains indians. The "Alamo" expansion introduced rules for larger games and rules for the US-Mexican war.

Beyond the rulebook we never really needed any other resources - there are scenarios enough there and you don't need any play-aids as such.

I've got some pics of some old games of mine in my gallery: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-1270-2014_Wild%20West.html

Anyone play Legends of the Old West?

If your interested in finding games - Adepticon will be running a number of "Legends" events. Aaron is running his Legends of the Rising Sun aka the Samurai game. The Old West tournament is sold out, although Battle at the Little Big Horn has plenty of open slots. Finally, the Legends of the High Seas tournament has a couple of tickets left.

Finding the books in the US can be a bit challenging. Scale Creep has a few books left on discount.
http://www.scalecreep.com/catalog/index.php?manufacturers_id=184&osCsid=9c691a56b562540a69a652e9a9c4e547

Thanks for all the replies.

I did not know they had so many games at Adepticon. I played the Samurai one and it was very fun (at COn of the North, by Aron Loomus. Sorry I know I'm spelling you name wronge).

The links and mentions of building ideas are very helpful. Thanks again.

I'm going to try to collect a town and get some posse's painted up. Look for thread in the coming month on my progress.

My terrain is just printed paper, glued to card and based nicely. I downloaded it off the internet a few years ago, and can't find the link now.

Whitewash City do some you can pay for, and they have a free sample saloon you can download:

http://www.erichotz.com/white_free.html

I found paper terrain perfectly good - it's not a bad way to represent the clapboard and adobe buildings of the period which don't have as much surface texture as stone or even brick.

My terrain is doing double bubble for Malifaux these days!

EDIT: I should add that the fences were home-made out of balsa strips and the cacti came from a dolls house shop.
