Rockin with Tzeentch - Some Painted Horrors - 10/3/11

I couldn't resist the title, sorry.

Anyway after some nagging from some friends I've decided to continue building up my Daemon army for WHFB. The only god I actually like though is Tzeentch so this is going to be a themed army.

Horrors themselves are generally weak and thinking I would probably get steamrolled I decided it might be best to get some of the more durable stuff from Nurgle, but Tzeentch style.
For a moment this counted as my Herald of Tzeentch, but I'm thinking it's more of a prototype for counts as Tzeentch Plaguebearers. I feel they need a new name as well, but I haven't thought of any.

So I grabbed two bags of fish tank pebbles and started to work. It's actually quite surprising how few stones would actually work for this as it's not just random rocks thrown together.
Mini-tutorial as well I guess.

I started off with the feet, the stones have to be roughly the same height and with a flat and large enough top for a second rock to make up the leg to sit on. They don't have to be exact as I figured the Lord of Change that did this just used any old rocks around or even the remnants of some empire castle.

The legs are next, of course the entire thing is held together with greenstuff. While I was doing the original one it just constantly fell apart and joined to my fingers with super glue.
The added advantage is that any that seeps out of the joints can be sculpted to look like another rock.

Usually I'd leave it with the legs and torso to set over night, but this one was sturdy enough to move on. The head of course has to be sculpted from scratch in order to give them a face.

Now he just has to lean up against that Shrek card box with the rocks in it to set. If you just leave them as is they'll fall over and apart. Balancing is important when making them so they don't constantly fall over during play.

While they cure I'll have to figure out if I'm going to give them the same rune on the back as the first one.

Or if I'm going to get a different one per model. At the moment I'm only making enough for a unit of 15. But I've still got about 8 Horrors and 3 Flamers that will be painted and added into this as well. Then comes the fun of making a new herald to lead the army.

I've gotten ideas to build a Lord of Change, converting up this model from Inquisitor.

Although the game is in the 54mm scale and he's on a 40mm base I'm not sure he'll be big enough. But, if I went with it he'd have wings of course. I don't need to worry about that until I get around the 3000 point mark anyway.

Re:Rockin with Tzeentch

Completed painting the first Flamer, although I might do the teeth I'm not sure as I kind of like the way it looks at the moment.

Also finished building the first rank. Thinking of names for them I'm going with either Aegis(es) of Tzeentch, Rockmen of Tzeentch or Puppets of Tzeentch.

The idea was that the banner is a former herald of Tzeetch who had fallen out of favour for failures and transformed into a banner as punishment, I'm not too sure about it though. For the rocks I'm going with the warpstone excuse.

They were created when the Lord of Change, Zeoabluu'aaraake (The best result I got from this generator) also known as the Puppeteer, visited the ruins of Mordheim out of curiosity. Watching some Skaven scurrying over fragments of warpstone he decided to have some fun. He poured some of his magic into a couple of fragments, their glow turning from a sickish green to a cooler blue glow. Etching a rune into the back of a stone he placed the warpstone onto it and watched as it sank into the stone. Whips of pale blue energy shot out from the rock grasping onto others and dragging them towards itself. Soon the pile of rubble took on the appearance of a man. Pleased with his new puppet, the Puppeteer knew there was one more thing to be done before it could be sent to the Skaven to play. The Daemon captured some of the spirits trapped within the ruins and imprisoned them in the puppet. Whether they were fully aware of their fate and tourtured by it remains unknown, but they served the Lord of Change without question or hesitation.

After their brief battle with the Skaven, The Puppeteer discovered that if either the rune of their warpstone heart were destroyed his puppets would simply return to being piles of rocks.

Re:Rockin with Tzeentch - First Rank Built, Flamer Done - 8/3/11

Finished painting the first rank of the puppets.

I suppose they'd look alright in a large number, but that banner isn't really adding anything to them at all. Next box of Horrors I get their banner will replace it most likely.
But that will have to wait a bit as I'm just painting stuff I've got sitting around waiting for the SoB update before buying anymore GW stuff.

Your puppets really "rock" (I like silly games, too )!!!

The ghastly flamer is nice as well, that colour scheme is original!

My only concern is the banner : the fluff is nice, but it looks a bit too "plain" and doesn't achieve its goal well. You could have used a regular banner from a random WHFB regiment (Skaven, Undead, etc...), with plastic Horror hand & head, all greenstuffed-up, that'd probably have been better...

But the "rock" & runes concepts more than make up for it!
