FW resin 'bleeding' need help//advice

Hello All,

I have had a FW Gargantuan Squigoth which has been lurking, assembled and undercoated, in my bottom drawer for an age. I finaly decided to pluck up the courage to paint the beastie when I noticed a sticky liquid had oozed out from the body at random points. I have washed the model with hot soapy water and a toothbrush but the problem has re-occured. I have also tried discreetly drilling into the model to try and let out any liquid inside but this hasn't helped.

Any advice on how to deal with this is greatly appreciated

Squil

Hmmm.

When I cast my own Tyranid parts I had a few examples were there was some oozing. I put this down to resin that had not cured properly -- it was my first time casting and I probably got the quantities of the two chemicals slightly wrong.

What I did was to simply dab away the ooze with a cotton bud dipped in acetone (nail polish remover) until I got down to hard, cured resin.

Your problem may be the same, though in my case the oozing occured as soon as I had pot the parts out of the moulds.

Perhaps there is uncured resin in the middle of the Squiggoth, in which case some more drilling and draining might help.

Read through this post. Antenocitis CSR has a few good ideas (and is a pro in the resin casting industry).
http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=224039

Did you buy it direct from FW, or is it second hand? If its second hand - it may be a recast, so who knows what the quality of the resin is.
