Land Speeder Tornado Pattern, Typhoon Pattern, or niether?

Battle Brothers! There is a conflict of a grand scale that will quickly descend on the sub-sector, and I hesitate. My honored champion, Captain Anverrad (Vulkan He'stan) has requisitioned Land Speeders to bolster failing PDF regiments. It is this, that I delay. I am aware of Anverrad's affinity with flamer and melta based weaponry, and had already planned on sending him Speeders with these upgrades installed in the Tornado Pattern. But I began to question whether flamer based weapons would be appropriate for such a vehicle, and if a Typhoon Pattern weapon would be better suited than the Multi-Melta, despite Anverrad's skill. So, I pose this question to you, fellow Astartes: What upgrade shall I send?

Serving the Emperor with each breath.

I personally use two typhoons in a squadron with hv bolters, works fine for me. 4 frag templates or krak missiles does wonders against light tanks, monsters , hordes and anything not in cover. If I need a side armour shot i just go flat out. It's easy to get cover saves too.

My advice is to just get a couple of test games in, use multiple variants in each list just for fun, see what works the best for you, and what your army needs.

MM/HF is a great balance that is tough to achieve in other FOC slots. Even in non-Vulkan lists (ones with Riflemen Dreads, for instance) they bring a lot to the table with their speed and DS. They're also cheaper than Typhoons. It depends a little bit on what the rest of the army is like, but with Vulkan - I mean, Anverrad - I'd go with MM/HF.

Look at it this way; you're spending almost 200 points on a model that gives certain guns a 5-10 point upgrade. You want to squeeze as much out as possible.

P.S. However, either would work, and the Typhoon will give you some long-range threats, but I'd rather see Razorbacks or Riflemen do that. The speed of the Landspeeder + Vulkan makes the MM/HF the better option IMO.

Since your force will already have a great proliferation of Melta and Flamer weapons, i would reccomend you boost your longrange firepower with the Typhoons.

they cover a short coming in the force.

the honored brothers piloting yor speeders will also thank you as they are far less likely to get shot down when operating at long distances from the enemy.

MM/HF speeders are death traps for the crew. pray for their souls.

Land Speeder Tornado Pattern, Typhoon Pattern, or niether?

Depends on how to use them. If my lord is willing to have them drop in and template some infantry or zap a vehicle before being rapidly shot down, the MM/HF combo will most likely make back its points. If you are seeking to supplement your melta/flamer-heavy force with some mobile firepower, however, I would recommend the Typhoons.

Land Speeder Tornado Pattern, Typhoon Pattern, or niether?

Honored brother, either a multi-melta/heavy flamer tornado or a typhoon can bring you victory. The MM/HF plays to your captain's natural strengths, but he should field at least 2 (preferably in single squadrons) to make sure they survive. That said, the brothers of the 13th legion have had great success with the Typhoon pattern as it provides an extremely mobile long-range firebase against light armor and hordes alike.

I thank you for your input, brothers. I will send two flamer/multi-melta variants, and a single Typhoon pattern speeder, to counter-balance the upclose style of combat required with the shorter range weapons.

May glorious victories be yours!
