The plan was to split the cost with me getting the Space Marines and him taking the Dark Eldar. After he decided to play Eldar instead, I ended up with both armies and built them up over the next couple years while playing mostly against the other guys in my Boy Scout troop. I stopped playing after high school graduation which was right around the release of 4th edition.
