Derelict Space Hulk Ship - Trying to create bases for my Space Hulk models.

I posted this on "Bolter & Chainsword," but havn't received a response as of yet. So I wanted to ask this forum as well. Sorry if some of you have already read there, but here goes.

Wanted to ask the experts. (Yes, that's you guys.) I have my Space Hulk Termies and I want to base them. I've cut and sanded away their pre-molded bases to get them ready.

So, I'm looking for suggestions and/or tutorials.

The theme I'm going for is an erie, derelict ship or ghost ship. Just what you would imagine a Space Hulk to be. So, I guess I'm asking for suggestions on, but not limited to...

1) Materials. (What to use and where to get them.)
2) Examples of bases you've done or seen and/or tutorials.
3) Tips on how I can execute techniques to make it work.
4) Photos of examples.

Any suggestions would be great.

I'm using the round lipped bases. Probably 40mm or 30mm for my Space Termies. I'd like to then carry the theme over to my genestealers as well.

Thanks for the help.

Semnos.

There is a textured plasticard sheet that should be invaluable for this that looks like metal decking. Cut squares out and replace with GS'd or prefab grates, small trenches with wires, maybe even a control panel or two. Interspace with some sheets of plain plasticard in strips with caution stripes or something similar.

"Granny Gate" is another good deck making material. For an example, see the base in the upper right hand corner.
The material is plastic latch hook sheeting available at hobby stores like Hobby Lobby.

Check out my SH project link in my sig

Then google sulaco bases from FenrisGames if you like what you see! There is a direct link to their ebay store somewhere in the early pages btw -

You could build your own, but there are great resin deck plating/ industrial bases already out there if you are willing to pay.

Note, they are slightly overlarge for the board, so they will be a tight squeeze if right next to each other, but honestly, it hasnt proved to be an issue for me, it never ruined or confused the game, and 1 square away from each other, they look amazing!

Good luck!
