Stormraven cockpit mod question

I've decided to modify the cockpit of the stormraven to hold two SM side by side instead of just the one. I've got the bits (land speeder) but noticed that the actual cockpit is molded into the fuselage and needs to be cut out. Given that I have very few ways to put a jeweler's saw in and cut without unintentionally cutting somethingelse, it really looks like this is going to be a pain in the ass to do.

If anyone has done this, exactly how much of a pain is it going to be and what problems did you run into that I need to watch out for? Is there a good way (or a trick) to do this or is it just going to suck till it's done? The gallery seems sparce on Stormravens and even google has failed me. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: I've just been pointed to Emperors_Champion's work and that's exactly what I'm trying to do.

My best guess would be to use a Dremel rotary cutter.

Stormraven cockpit mod question

dremel will also melt away way more then you want to.

If this thing is unassembled, then its easy, but it takes much effort and patience. Take a knife and carefully score what needs to be cut, slowly carving deeper each time. Take your time withe it, and eventually it will hop out, then take sand paper and or a file and smooth it down, and away you go.

if its already assembled.... well.... same method as above, the difficulty being is that you dont get to save the cockpit as parts in your bitz-box, and you have to carve the inside up, section by section. There might be a way around it, like cut the obvious panels away panel by panel. It takes even longer, but it preserves it in re-usable bit condition.

If none of the above are your concern.... then as Owain said, rotary/dremel. Just be sure to cut less than what you are aiming for, so that after you finish cleaning, you have what you need, not more to fix.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
PS. I haven't seen the cockpit myself, so no. 2 option might not be so viable. Use your judgment and the advice of others on that one

Stormraven cockpit mod question

It's still unassembled and will remain so until I can do all the conversion work I want. I will be putting in the dual cockpit via land speeder bits and extending the back via plasticard. I haven't decided if I want to flip the tail 180 or not. The other possibility with the tail is to just extend the tail wings out a little bit on each side.

Stormraven cockpit mod question

In that case, I might reccomend obtaining the valkyrie as well. I personally absolutely LOATHE the tail on the stormraven. The extra bulk and engine would also make it more convincing of being able to fly.
