Was out in derby today and found a shop that sells what appears to be a full range of Vallejo paints.

The shop is called Model Zone. The paints were £2.75 each.

List of branches: http://www.modelzone.co.uk/stores/

Not sure if it was common knowledge but it was news to me.

Vallejo paints in the UK

Dropper bottles and screw tops. They're pretty rockin'. Citadel paints, while looking nice, tend to dry a lot quicker in the pot due to the design. You need to keep the lip pristine to keep it properly closed, but even then there's no real seal there. once you pop the lid, the hinge never marries properly, which can lead to leakage if knocked over, and the lip, while great for out of the pot painting (which in itself is not recommended), when shaken to recombine the contents tends to have far too much in it. this leaks off the lip and dpwn the back of the hinge.

Colours are good, it's just the format they come in. When my citadel stuff is gone, I doubt I'll replace it, unless a comission insists on them.

GW brushes aren't any better, even when compared to similar brushes of the same price. They're never going to be pro at the price you pay for them, but as a case in point, I had to pick up a brush in a pinch, got a basecoat and fine detail. The basecoat has some pretty awful droopage going on and the fine detail has fishtailed, and it ain't through misuse. =/ Wierd really, because thier stipple and tank brushes are a completely different story.

I went in there asking if they stocked plasticard, and all I got was a strange look from the employees (almost as if i'd shot a puppy in front of them) and told they don't sell it; I even had to to explain that the concept of plastic card actually existed and I wasn't fething with them.

Praxiss wrote:is there a major difference in the size of the pots, i'm not even sure ow much you get in a GW paint pot......is it 25ml of paint?

Not even close! You get more paint per penny with Vallejo. There's no noticable difference between them, although some shades can vary slightly.

Anyoen who has used them: is there a major difference between the "Game Colour" and "Model Colour" ranges? I've only ever used GW paints so i'm a little out of my depth here.

Game Colour tends to be your bright and vibrant with less graduation of colours, whereas with model colour, you've got an extensive range of greys, blues, greens and of course your drabs. They're simply aimed at two different markets. Fantasy Minis and recreation minis. The formula is the same, and they work well together. For example, when painting an ultramarine I use GC Royal blue, MC Prussian blue and GC ultramarine blue to good effect. The swatch on dakkas wiki works very well. You may notice a slight difference, but the hex codes provided help a lot, especially for people with different colour settings on thier monitor. I use it often.

As a final thought, Vallejo can seperate slightly more than your GW on occasion, but a good shake will reintegrate, just as it does with GW. Pigment tends to settle on the bottom of the pot moreso than GW, but that's because the pots are taller with vallejo paint. A shake before you paint cures this. The only paints I know of that don't seperate (or at least not to the same degree) are Privateer Press, so you can store them as long as you like without worrying about shaking them.
