I need your advice. Whilest playing GTA The lost and the Damned, the idea came to me that it would be cool to field a squad of IG Bikers. I remember back in the day you used to be able to do this? I think?....anyway, reading the rules for IG Rough Riders, i have to say, horses? in the 41st Millenium? really?

Anyway, would you guys see any issue with modelling my Rough Riders on bikes and using them as "counts as"? I can't find a reason in the Codex that would sneer at the idea, other than the fluff is always about Barbarians in space riding their wild stallions...crap!.....

tbh I like a lot of the lo-tech stuff that appears in 40K. I mean stomping around in a buff dreadnaught blasting chaos space marines in a post apocalyptic wasteland is one thing but I think it's far more interesting having skirmishes with a few imperial guard squads against poorly-armed cultists. I mean, it's a big universe, and anything conceivable can happen. There are barbarian worlds and backwater planets where people have nothing more than crossbows. Hell, the warhammer world could exist within the 40K universe as far as we know, though I'm absolutely sure I'm not the first person to suggest that possibility.

YES. That's the word I was looking for, the anachronistic tones of the 40K universe is what gives it it's character. There are laser guns, teleportation, faster-than-light spaceships but people still worship a vegetable sitting on a throne as a living god and pray over engines.

A guardsmen's life is short and usually voilent, so I like my soldiers to head towards that destination with style. So while thinking about how to create my own blend of roughriders, minus a horse, I came to a conclusion.

I've already used the legs and what not from Scouts for my pimped up Veterans.....so the conversion will not be out of place.

For those that think that bikes are boring....yeah, I can see where you're coming from, but I agree with MechaEmperor7000 about the "mood backlash"

In the Codex they talk about how Horses are better than machines, becuase they don't need fuel and are not easily picked up on sensors (?)......however, the flip side is that machines don't get tired, don't need feeding and warmth, and go as fast as all stop out! I could see horses working really well if the theme of your army was hodge podge, dirty filthy and just scrambling to survive stealing whatever they could from the local area. Bikes would fit better with a more clean, new and fresh army and with the busted up one.

Because that's actually how warhammer 40k started back in rogue trader... There was a retro review of rogue trader somewhere 'round here... In the AD there's clear indication of the fact that, supposedly, WHFB is actually a particularly backwater planet in the 40k universe, which is why we had orks in space, empire in space, elfs in space and so on.
