I know its a completely different model but on my dwarf warriors armour I used boltgun metal, badab black wash, chainmail heavy drybrush and mithril silver light drybrush. I use ogryn flesh as over boltgun/chainmail, and then a deeper brush wash on my admech models

it isnt really appropriate for something supposed to be shiney.

over gunmetal it sort of leaves the sheen and darkens the grey, after that I use another much darker brown ink so that the model looks like he bathes in machine oil (it is admech after all)

I used dip for a while too but brown ink is the way to go IMHO.

if i remember right, this model used just ogryn over the shield part (over gunmetal)

while my old sentinals used just dip/wood stain (painted on, not dipped that is stupid) overtop the gunmetal for their legs (bad pic)

its really an aquired thing, for many models it will look bad but for a geasy/steampunky look I think it works great.
