City / Grey battle mats?

Hey guys,

What do you use for Cities of Death style games? I don't want to use the flimsly paper gaming mat that came with the expansion, i would rather having something like an ordinary green battlemat, except grey or city like. What do you guys use . recommend or where do you get yours from? i really want to try some Cities of Death style games but i desperately need a surface. Something like the Realm of Battle board in mat form would be ace.

Thanks!

I hate seeing no one post in a topic, so even though I have no experience in this area, I will try and help.

Have you looked at the GW supplies on their website? They are quite good if you want roads and tank traps and such, but finding a portable mat that you can use for gaming may be harder. A static thing, like realm of battle gaming board, while expensive and annoying to transport, always makes for a great gaming surface.

You could even flip this upside down maybe?

One thing I would suggest is getting a sheet of grey or black fabric cut to size. It would be cheap, durable, and tough. If you want something fancier but easy, how about lino tiles, like these:

http://www.ukflooringdirect.co.uk/Vinyl.htm?147=Individual_Tiles&page=2

I have three mats from http://theterrainguy.com/cigama.html
listed above. They are great. Maybe not as nice as the Zuzzy one, but they don't need to be painted and are priced so that I can afford them.

Jake

Have you considered buying a 6x4 board, and scoring irregular sized rectangles into it? When sprayed black, drybrushed grey with some brown near the scores, you get an effective city surface for minimal cost.

I'm aware however that storage could be an issue for you.
