Double sided magnetization for movement trays?

Hey all.

I just recently got into WHFB after a pretty good deal on swapping some other models for High Elves. This is all well and good, but I'm at a loss when it comes to movement trays and transport. I've been gaming for a long time, but nothing yet that isn't on a round base. Given the unit sizes in WHFB, I'd reallly like some advice on doing two things:

1) magnetising individual infantry/cavalry bases
2) making a set of movement trays of different sizes that I can stick magnetised bases to on one side, and then proceed to stick the other side onto a metal toolbox or something similar.

I'm (hopefully) moving across an ocean in the fall, and the last thing I need is to bulk out my luggage with stacks upon stacks of foam trays in Sabol cases, since I've already got a bunch for my 40k, PP, and misc other games. I'm more interested in functional and safe than pretty - I'd actually prefer a slice of black tray separating my flocked bases than have them painted a colour and then seem out of place on different table terrain.

Thanks all!

I've seen several people do exactly what you're talking about, using rare earth magnets. Haven't done it myself, but I've handled them. Do you have any more specific questions? Individual magnets under the bases seems to be the usual. Actually, if you just make the movement trays out of steel, you can just stick more magnets to the inside of the toolbox, too. Or, of course, stick the models directly to the steel sides and bottom of the case.

If the base is magnetized, it holds on a metal regiment base AND will hold the regiment base to the metal case. Same direction. Magnets should be strong enough.

Re:Double sided magnetization for movement trays?

Great, thanks. I'll try with just magnetising the models to their metal movement tray, and then see if that has enough force to stick to a metal tray. If not, a second round of magnets, I guess.

It should be strong enough. I find Magnetic sheet is better and cheaper than REM's, personally.
