The Blood Rogues

Working on painting my whole Blood Angels army, all 8000 points worth. This has been quite an undertaking and to be honest I'm not the best painter and I'd like to consider my efforts, slightly above table quality.

I'm getting close to the end and I want to keep motivated.

I created my own chapter with my own story and heroes.

I will put the background up, but basically they are a chapter that is sent on suicide missions and manage to win the day and come back. This goes with the win, but just barely play style. Last time I played my friend's SW army I had 2 units on the board at the end of a 2k game. A dread and my version of Gabriel Seth, Chapter master Antillies (yes, the Blood Rogues needed that Star Wars Reference.) I was the winner, but I took heavy losses.

So I plan on posting some of my work as it is done. I hope for some opinions ad comments, because as anyone who has painted tons of minis know, the best part is showing them off.

Fist is my version of Mephiston. He is Lazeron the Lightning cloak, and his back story is not done.

Re:The Blood Rogues-Blood Angels Successor Chapter

Almost a year has passed since I began this army painting project. It has been a long journy and in that time I have painted almost 100% of the army, and then let it go for quite a bit. Recently (Blame 6th Edition) I have picked them back up. Given my old work a hard look, and decided to go back nad improve them as best I can now. I also picked up a few bits here and there to improve the army and some new models to boot.

For starters: I picked up Dark Vengence. Since the army had a mix of Blood Angels and Dark Angels Iconography, it was a perfect fit to include them. I didn't have a Libby in power armor, but I do now...

I'm going to try to include some WIP shots for models I'm adding to the army, and when possible, show the old models with their updated pic in the same post. Stick around and hope this inspires somebody.

Re:The Blood Rogues

Taking stock of the work on my table (literally) is fairly daunting. About 10 of these guys have been gone back over and updated, if the sand on the base is painted, then it's a completed model. I wanted to post this to compare to the older group shot on the same table. Makes me feel good to see how many more are painted now then they were before, and the army has grown a bit as well.

Old Shot

\
Current

Some slightly closer ups:

\

I'm currently working on some Kitbashed Sternguard Veterans, and I have 10 assorted marine bodies and 10 Jump Packs and I'm thinking about making 5 into Vanguard Veterans to finish off the 5 I already have and making 5 into assault marines to finish off the 5 man squad I have currently. The other thing I was thinking of doing is making a 10 man assault squad with jump packs, as I don't actually have any flying assault marines. It's a hard decision.

Re:The Blood Rogues Kitbash Techmarine

Made a techmarine the other day. I never really considered it a strong enough unit or cool enough model to justify a purchase, but then I was given an old Blood Angels Honor Guard box ( http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?prodId=prod1100022) and it comes with bits intended for an old Tech adept and I thought I could make myself a count as fairly easily here. The sero-arms are really the issue, and I tried to go with a Dr. Octopus style where the arms didn't have to be rigid, but could be like tendrils. It's not the best, but I don't feel like it will confuse people. I can always change it up. Anybody have any good idea for bits that could make a servo harness or ones to improve the Techmarine look in general?

Re:The Blood Rogues Mephiston count as Update

This is one of the models that I did a while ago. He is my homebrew chapters Head Librarian, Lazeron the LIghtning Cloak (Mephiston Count-As).

I tried the best I could to update him a bit and improve the overall look of the model. There are some highlights on the face that don't show here, otherwise they don't really show up too great, but I really did try. I added a third tone to the lighning on the cape which makes the center "pop" a bit more.

New Pic

Old Pic:

New shots:

Did a little to improve the sword added some high;lights to the plasma pistol to make a better "glow" effect -

The Blood Rogues-Sternguard Veterans

Picked up a Blood Angels battleforce off Ebay and put together some Sternguard Veterans using the bits I had around with bodies from the box. I used the ammo box from s torm bolters on a filed down bolter for the special issue ammo bolters. 2 guys have Plama and 1 with a Combi Flamer. The Sargent has Melta Bombs due to a low ammount in the army overall. I'm happy with how they came out and the hacked bits will probably look a bit more streamlined when they are primed and painted.

Old metal Blood Angels head from the Honor Guard box.

Somewhat generic Sternguard.

Terminator (Like the Movie, not the Elite choice) Head:

Ran out of the sotrm bolter bits, so this Marine is their ammo porter.
The Blood Rogues Now OVER 9,000!

After finishing my Sternguard Veterans, I used the remaining stuff to make some Assault Marines. This marks what I am calling the end of the army as the Red paint I used is discontinued and the Mephiston Red is NOT a close enough replacement to make my army look uniform. I am now just barly over 9k points, and that seems like a good place to stop aquiring new models. I can field any unit in the codex, and I'm only missing 3 characters. Asterath the Grim, Lemartes, and Captain Tycho. I think I'm going to use Christmas money to finish it truly, and I think a fitting end would be to give my chapter a fortress of Redemption.I won't allow them that gift until they are all painted to my satisfaction.

For now, the unit that tipped us over 9k-

The Blood Rogues Honor Guard Updated

This unit has been hacked to pieces and redone many times over and I think I'm finally happy with them. I would like to take this chance to ask/say, I have always thought that sheild that comes with the assault marines plastic kit was a Power Armor marine size Storm Sheild, and the Terminators get a bigger one. I have some very old assault marines with metal bits that come with a tiny metal sheild (think a medievil buckler) and that is about half the size of the ones that come with the kit now. Also, it doesn't replace a weapon, and the new one is hand held (the old one just glued onto the forearm holding the pistol/chainsword) so I figured that's what it was. I really try for WYSIWYG and I don't want to have to go around rearming these guys because I thought they had SS, but only have Combat Sheilds...

That aside, here are some of the the updated honor guard I have been working on-

BP and Chain Sword

Plasma Pistol and SS

Sanguinary Noviate-Not sure why I didn't do the bronze on him. I wanted him to fit in as a member of my Sanguinary Priests more than the Honor Guard. He is the Sang priest assigned to this squad, more than he is an Honor guard himself. I think that makes sense ,

Ok...that's it. I mean it this time. I probably won't update again until after the holiday. I do want to say THANK YOU to everyone taking the time to come take a lot at my work. Just hit over 1k views. I hope someone likes my work, and it inspires someone to work on their own army. Have a great holiday. CHEERS!
