I want to know how long it takes to get hings

I have always looked at it like this. For two reasons, 15MM miniatures for 40K would be better. First, you would keep the same movement rates, weapon ranges, blast templates, etc. This way, the disconnect between the miniature scale and these numbers would not be quite as absurd. Second, in the current mech metagame, it would give tanks more room to maneuver, since currently getting anywhere on a table with a decent amount of terrain means balancing land raiders and battlewagons on top of flimsy store terrain, which I am totally not a fan of. Also, with a slight bit of streamlining of the way attacks are resolved, you could increase the standard game size to 3,000 points, open up the FOC (Or use a proportional system instead of slot-based) and perhaps include a limited space for superheavies. It would feel more like an actual battle, and less like an isolated firefight. Okay, maybe that's actually four or five reasons, but I have a problem with run-on sentences. The 30MM game could be made into a more detailed skirmishy sort of game for those who like that sort of thing. Just sayin'

It'll never ever happen, but I agree that a 15mm 40k would be awesome with the current state of the game. 28mm needs to be skirmish level, the models are just too big to do mass battles with. Trying to play anything over 2,000 points on a standard 6x4 is a nightmare, and really the point of having 28mm minis is the amount of detail on each figure, somehting that is completely lost when you have 100 of the same fig on the table. I would love to go back to 20~30 guys a side and a couple vehicles, maybe I'd actually get full armies painted instead of losing interest on squad #2 of 5.

15mm gives you enough detail to be fun to paint and is small enough to keep things manageable on the table, I've really been looking hard at some of these 15mm figs from Rebel Minis and Critical Mass games. If only I could get some people interested enough to play em with.

Oh no I'm not saying 15mm 40k would be bad, just for now not what I'm interested in buying for now.
Re:This looks awfully familiar...

I sent an e-mail to Ken at Proxie models about his miniatures, and this is the original message and the reply. It just goes to show the power of Dakkadakka.

Ken, I'm the one who saw the article about your Leman Russ lookalike on TTGN
and posted the link on Dakkadakka. My screen name is Warpcrafter. I have
been saying for quite a while that 40K would make a lot more sense and be
easier to play if 15Mm miniatures were used. First of all, the disconnect
between the ground scale and the miniature scale would not be quite as
absurd, and the miniatures, especially tanks would be easier to maneuver. I
tried playing epic (Waaay back when it was epic space marines) but I really
hate dealing with 6MM infantry. I personally play Orks, and I am getting
tired of balancing my battlewagons on top of ruins and other terrain
features because it's the only way to place them exactly where I want them.
If you are planning on doing a whole line of vehicles that are similar to
other 40K types, perhaps you could also make a spiked roller that could be
stuck on them. I will be following your progress with great interest, and
promoting your work on Dakka as much as possible. They thought that they
were tired of me promoting 15MM scale before, they haven't seen anything
yet! Keep up the great work. \m/

This is his reply

I agree about 15mm being better than currently available stuff to do armor
battles. It looks silly in the extreme to have 2 super heavy tanks on a 4x6
table. And if you want to run an armor company you have to go smaller scale.
My little tanks look pretty neat on the table and you can buy a mass of them
for the price of a single 28mm tank. The super heavies will be more
expensive, but still around $6-8. A lot better than $90.
I am not really going to copy GW designs and vehicle types, because they
are a bit sue happy. I am working on an alternative history WW1 sci-fi
range, some of which will be similar to IG from 40K. The rebels will have
things usable as war trukks for the orcs. My friend will publish some rules
to match, but if the models suit the bill for other games all the better.
Many are WW2 tanks beefed up with larger guns. I got a KV2 coming with huge
siege weapons.
I actually have worked out a way to make CAD files from video game
images, so I have all of the files from Dawn of War and could easily make a
full range of 15mm stuff. I could just never sell it. I am going to make a
few pieces for me and friends to beat around with. I designed a mold for
15mm power armor troops that are taller than usual and multi-pose (
slightly) . I never cut it out yet, when I do I will send you some pics.
Just something I sort of wanted for my own uses.

Anyhow, thanks for the link. I posted the news to the Miniatures page and
Tabletop news, but the traffic from Dakka was far more than both of them
combined.

Ken
