Army Idea...Am I Crazy?

So i have this idea for an army. What is essentially floating pyramids of Nurgle: dubbed the "Plaguefleet." Using the BA codex (for fast vehicles rules) and mostly vehicles. I've done up one vindicator so far, and I will post pics once I've painted it. It's roughly the same size as a rhino, and probably a little bit taller, and is built out of plasticard, green stuff, and chaos/SM bits. However, as this is intended to be a tournament army, I have a few questions:

1) Is it a good idea?

2) Would you allow it/Is it tournament legal? It will have all the correct weapons on their respective models, and all will be roughly the same size as their respective models, as well as being easily able to distinguish which model type is which.

3) Would you enjoy playing against this type of army?

Thoughts? Comments? Criticism?

If you pulled it off, then it could look really well.

Generally the army as a whole help add to each individual model if a strict and original theme is kept.

Be sure to get pics up soon.

However, I think the BA codex is unsuitable, people might think you're using it in tournies because it's a good codex. I don't think anyone could complain if you used the C:CSM.

Nice idea, let us know how you get on.

If it looks good (and it sounds like it could be) I would not mind playing against it, depending if the units are easy to identify.

And for tournaments, you would need to check with the TO.

Army Idea...Am I Crazy?

C:CSM wouldn't be quite as good as an option as I was going to use razorbacks as the main force. I could pull it off, it just wouldn't be very good. I had planned on using BA for the extra predators and the FNP from priests (it being nurgle). But what about C:SM? Probably wont get as much hate as BA..?

Yo.

If you like the BA codex, use it. Screw other people who look down on you for it. If it would work best for your army as you envision, awesome! If it works well in a tournament setting? Even better! Don't worry so much about what other people think, especially on the internet.

Army Idea...Am I Crazy?

Unless you're bringing it to a tournament, I doubt anyone would give you trouble for playing a well converted army as a "counts-as." Explaining the theme of the plague fleet and the need for a list that can run extra vehicles/FNP stuff, you'd be in the clear for most people.

If you're aiming for tournament play, things will be a bit dicey. Check with the TO, but I think it would be hard to convince many people that a clearly chaos army can be allowed as a BA list.

Army Idea...Am I Crazy?

Both viewpoints are good to consider. In most smaller venues rule of cool wins and as long as the modeling is easily understandable most events and players will not take issue with a counts as army.

As for larger events its best to check with the event organizers once you have some pics to illustrate what you are doing and that can show how clearly the models are represented. In the past many events required approved color schemes for armies like marines ... it was listed in the documentation for things like GW GT's. Now that counts as is officially endoresed ... I'm not sure what the offical policies of the larger events are.

One thing to be careful of though, try to keep the model as clsoe to the original as you can ... if you appear to be gaining too much from you conversion people will only see the advantages you gain ... and will discount any disadvantages you acuire. For example if you "skimmer" vindicator is higher off the ground than normal, you will be accused of "modeling for advantage" becasue your line of sight will be increased to go over things that would normally block your sight. The people saying this will also ignore the fact that it makes it easier to see and shoot at and harder for it to get cover if it is floating above the terrain. In my Chaos army, I have demon princes that are converted and on dynamic bases, or are larger models(like forgework KOS) and many people want to take advantage of the larger model size to deny it cover, but are upset if I ever gain an advantage from the larger model size(like being able to see over a land raider).

Not everyone will be that way, but in a torunament environment your bound to encounter one or more that think that way. So, just consider each peice and be aware that if it deviates to much from the standard model you may have some issues to ocassionally deal with. I find that letting my opponent get the advantages of my model and not taking any advantages it offers me usually smooths things over, but I'm there to show off my models, not necessary to beat face.

There are quite a few "Chaos" armies runnign around using the blod angel and the space wolves dexes ... soon to be a lot of tzeentch armies using the GK codex too. So you won't be alone in this regard. With Counts as in the main rules, and the general acceptance that the chaos book is not all that and a bag of chips, most people are fine with the counts as aspect if its clear. I have run a Chaos army using the space wolf codex ... Berzerkers = wolf guard, chaos lord = logan grimnar, wolfguard with combi weapons as chosen, tWC as berzerkers on dark elf coldones. The only thing that changed is the colores they were painted. Most people that come across it think it is a pretty cool idea, with only one or two traditionalist objecting "on pricipal." Both of my local tournament venues have accepted and endoresed it, and I played it in Ardboys round 1.
