What do you do with plague marines and kill points ?

I have been using plague marines alot recently and I can see why people love them so much. They take a long time to kill and if you run them as a 6 man squad they a great.

I use them for holding objectives and contesting objectives. The problem is, what do I do if the mission is kill points ? I know they will hold our for a while but what do I do with them, I have no idea what units to attack with them and I am not sure how I should use them when the mission is based on kill points. The main problem is I don't know how to score kill things with them.

What does everybody else do with plague marines when they need to score kill points ?

Re:What do you do with plague marines and kill points ?

Well you should be giving them 2 special weapons, of which Melta is the most common choice. Go slag a vehicle and get your KP.
If they are only in your army to hold objectives, I like the 2x Plasma option as it gives you twice the range and twice the shots up close and with FnP you have to worry very little about overheats. 2 Plasma shots @ BS4 is enough to damage most light vehicles, put wounds on an MC or just backup the Bolters for taking out a squad of exposed infantry.

Lastly, if you're only playing with Plague Marines, I find that a 2x Flamer squad with Power Fist can be a good choice for pushing your opponent's unit off of an objective and taking it for yourself.

What do you do with plague marines and kill points ?

First, nurgle likes the number 7.

As for use, what do you use your other troops for in normal games? They are just as good as any other unit. The option to take two special weapons is awesome, and they can really help out your entire army.

If you don't consider plague marines to be killers, what are the killers in your army? The trick to getting the most out of them is to fin ways for the Plague Marines to support those killer units. They don't have to kill an enemy unit one on one, as long as they are helping with the armiy goal.

-Myst

What do you do with plague marines and kill points ?

just use them as all-rounder, like the csm, just a bit more resilient.

i like to grind units down with them with the PF, but i use 2 meltas in the squad so they are pretty damn killy TBH

What do you do with plague marines and kill points ?

Even with a fist a PM squad is not that killy. They are very survivable, but that rarly translates into killing the enemy off.

It is best to support the PMs with other units.

Abadabadingdong actually shines in a PM unit as they provide the staying power and he provides the I kill everything power. Still way over priced for what he does, but thats the theme for the entire chaos book, so ... yeah.

typhus is not bad, but hes expensive and can be insta gibbed ... not fun. But he does add to the killing potential, you just have to be very careful with him.

A nurgle dual Lightling claw lord(or an emaciated almost skeletal lord with Mark of Slaanesh to represent that he is quicker than his bloated bretheren if you don't mind mixing marks to make the LC I5) isn't bad. Almost as much as a DP with half the benefits, but can go in a transport if your army is mechanized).

Dual Winged Nurgle princes are a pretty decent buy, warptime makes them pretty killy, MoN makes them pretty tough(T6).

Oblits make good support for nurgle as they can deal pesky armor(espescially if you went with Plasma Guns for objective camping in objective missions).

generic CSM make decent mini assault troops if you have rhinos. They can get the volume of attacks and be a little more plentiful than PM. They won't go around killing other uber units, but they can take on most non dedicated assault units with their pistols+meltagun(s) before assaulting in(if clsoe enough not to miss the assault from casaulties) and then 3 attacks each in the assault(assuming they are the ones charged), plus an icon of Chaos Glory to help with combats that only go slightly bad. They need rhinos though, as walking they will never get to where it counts ... you need to be aggressive with them and really push them forward ... drive 12" the furst turn pop smoke, and hopefully desmbark, 2" move 6" assault 6" to assault something on turn two.

Chosen and Havocs with special weapons are great ways to bring the hurt to the enemy. keep them to squads of about 5 or 6 with 3-4 speciall weapons and a rhino. Sometimes outflanking can help you put the squeeze on someone, other times its better to keep them on the board from the beginning. IMO they are not effective combat units ... as they will pay far too much for the upgrades and still not compete with dedicated assault units ... so I think they are best used as support shooters with special weapons. So resist the urge to put a fist orother CC weapons on them. If they get assaulted they are smaller than a regualr CSM squad so they are pretty much toast unless the assaulting unit is weak anyway, in which case, they don't need fists and such to beat them. Again, these NEED to be mechanized. Walking, they are just easy kills for your opponent.

One last note ... as nurgle you can play the I start the game with half the kill points that you have game ... If you don't mech up and use princes and oblits to get easy kill points from yoru enemy ... drop pods, weak transports, wimpy dev squads, etc. you can play conservativly with your plague marines and win by simply having less things to kill than your opponent. This tends ot be a very bland playstyle though, anddoenst result in the most fun of games.
