2500 'ard boyz nidzilla

hello dakka, long time lurker/ reader-of-battle-reports here

I am getting ready for ard boyz with my bugs, and i think i have discovered a keeper of a list. It is sort of a nidzilla list, and relies upon having lots and lots of T6 (58 total wounds), most of which will have a 4+ cover save.

-The swarm lord
-3x tyrant guard
boneswords

-hive tyrant
bonesword/ lashwhip, talons
armored shell, old adversary
paroxysm, life leech
-3x tyrant guard
boneswords

-3x hive guard

-3x hive guard

-3x hive guard

-tervigon
cluster spines
catalyst

-tervigon
cluster spines
catalyst

-10x termagaunts
flesh borers

-11x termagaunts
flesh borers

-9x genestealers
poison
-broodlord
poison, scything talons

-2x carnifexes
2x scything talons

-2x biovores

i have already tested this list out a few times against some experienced players running hard lists like dual lash and such and in those games it has performed with flying colors. I know their is a lot of ap1-2 weapons, but with 3 guard and a 4+ cover save from the termagaunts, even deing lashed and hit with oblits, rocket havocs, and plasma chosen has a hard time killing of the tyrant units, each of which can pretty much take out most units int he game in one or two turns. this list is actually the second evolution of my nidzilla army, the first one had one more biovore and instead of the swarm lord + guards, it was just a duplicate of the other tyrant unit. so, what do you dakkites think, do you see any major problems you think i may run into?

thanks for any help

Long fangs aren't as scary as you might imagine, my hive tyrant unit will typically be hugging cover, or using gaunts for a 4+ cover save, and a 2+ save on one tyrant and feel no pain from the tervion goes a long way to minimizing the damage they can cause.

Grey knights are probably my biggest weakness if only because of my many many multiwound models, im just going to have to be smart about it and pray fro lucky sitw rolls.

This army has already proven itself very much the equal of leafblower lists, the 9 hive guard are really brutal against vehicles. The tyrants, again with a 4+ cover save and FnP are crazy resilient, even to plasma spam.

But thanks though, i do need to get some experience against blood angels and space wolfs, and just more practice in general.

2500 'ard boyz nidzilla

I'd actually recommend (as everyone does) a Trygon or two, which will add some much needed speed to your Nidzilla, forcing your opponents to divert attention away from your other big nasties. However, the problem with Trygons is where to get the points from?! I wonder about trimming the Hive Guard (or Tyrant Guard) to 2 each or possibly even the stealers in order to try and squeeze these guys in, but I believe they could add a lot to the army.

Similarly, Gargoyles or someone similar may be a good option to provide speed (and potential cover) and to hem your opponents in so your big nasties can close.

I'd actually fear something like Blood Angels, Eldar and Dark Eldar the most in your army due to their much greater speed.

Otherwise however I reckon it's a pretty good start.

Is the Swarmlord that much better over just another Tyrant? That would save you a few points if you could trim him. But, if he has been amazing for you then I suppose that is fine. The problem I have with him is that he costs more and he dies just like another Tyrant when getting shot at.

Also, the Genestealers look out of place. Trim those, downgrade the Swarmlord to a regular Tyrant, and trim the Biovores and you could probably fit another big guy in there somewhere. But, maybe that is really bad. I don't play 'Nids but I am familiar with the codex because our whole gaming group was super excited when the codex came out. Then we became very sad.

1. How is your swarmlord getting a 4+ cover from a gaunt? As a MC there is no way he will be getting much cover at all unless you play on terrain heavy boards. The LF packs will have a field day.

2. You are also taking the MCs with a low Initiative value aside from the tyrants. That stupid psychic power that does the straight line, init test, removed from board power will own your big guys. That seems to be a fav at our flgs.

3, Your list also has a super small model count..tyranids in this codex need "look over here at me instead of the juicy big price synapse" units....Nidzilla is really hard to pull off with this codex..especially in a hard boyz where every nasty thing an army has to offer has a chance to make it onto the board. This list is unlikely to see h2h before turn 3 at best at which point most armies you face should have at least 2 of your Mcs dead.

They will zoom around in Las/Plas Razorbacks, find a spot where they can see your beasties and/or your Hive Guard (while still being out of range of them), and then fire 10-15 krak missiles in every direction scoring free wounds.

You also need to fear Rune Priests. All those I1 monsters will die automatically to Jaws of the World Wolf from a Priest that has been DS'ed perpendicular to them. Their Runic Staff wargear items will also nullify a lot of your attempts to use Catalyst or any Broodlord powers.

Success with the current codex requires numbers. If you're going to run Genestealers, you need to do as the guy(s) at Adepticon did and run 40+, or none at all. Also, Biovores are okay at blasting holes in troops, but they won't do a lot if the enemy is zooming around in fast vehicles like the Dark Eldar and Blood Angels are sure to have.

This list has a strong base, but I'd consider dropping the Biovores; adding more or completely dropping the Genestealers; and drop one of either the Tyrant or the Swarmlord to add 290840283 other broods.

2500 'ard boyz nidzilla

thanks for all the responses first of all.

a lot of you mentioned that the biovres wouldn't be all that useful because the enemy was in tanks, and that i was too slow, also because of tanks... that is why i brought 9 hive guard to the mix =D, they are meant to make up for my lack of maneuverability.

the swarm lord is replacing the other tyrant because i find that things like hidden power fists/klaws and even just otehr MC's eat through my death stars too fast. also, the swarm lord + crew is my only answer to things like TWC and 10 thunderhammer termies.

the genestealers are their to nullify things like long fangs, heavy weapon squads, oblits etc. that and they can hit a hard unit, typically kill it, and are a troop choice for objectives. finally, with poison and rending, they serve double duty killing MC's and tanks/ backfield artillery vehicles.

and now we come to the area i knew would be contentious, carnifex/ trygon. i am very very very tempted to try to squeeze in 2 trygons instead of the fexes. for just 40 more points, i get fleet, 2+ WS, 2+ attacks, better initiative, better LD, and shooting attack. the only caveats i have with the trygons are that they are nigh impossible to find cover for, with out the fexes, i have no way to deal with monoliths at all (cept killing the necrons for phase out) and my list is really tight on points, and taking trygons basically means scrapping the biovores who have worked really well for me. but i think i will try a few games with them as a test.

thanks again for the great constructive advice!
