It doesnt look 'washed' to me. Looks like a darker chainmail somehow wet blended, but I'm not sure. Looking to see if I can duplicate the codex' paintjobs in my own army. I'm a fairly skilled painter but unsure how to get the Grey Knight armour right.

Last time I painted my Knights came up with this result....

...while the thinned out blue wash produced an 'original' effect that some people seemed to like I was never really that happy with it. I'm about to start another attempt now and want my stuff to look JUST like what's in the codex or I'm going to pick up an airbrush and copy the job done on the front page here at dakka right now. I'll probably do whatever is quicker and easier.

You need to add some value to the silver, start with a darker color such as boltgun metal and work you way up to chainmail, do you extreme highlights with a bit of mythril silver and then use your blue wash to pull it all together.

Of course its easier to achieve a smoother blend between values using an airbrush, otherwise you'll need to go at it with many layers of ultra thinned paint.


Just FYI, if youre unhappy with the way GW metallics are working for you, try using the Vallejo air flow stuff.
