Just finished seeing Thor, and these are my conclusions and lingering questions, all spoilerized for your protection.

Spoiler:

#1: It was pretty entertaining on the rare moments that the movie actually get you focus on anything. It seems rushed, like they had two movies worth of material, but had to cut one movie. That's not surprising, since they still have Captain America to get out, and The Avengers next summer.

#2: Best, but shortest Stan Lee cameo yet!

#3: I sorta think that that mysterious energy source Nick Fury had in the After-the-credits bit was the thing Loki stole from Asgard. Interesting, but I would have rather seen them do something more with Hawkeye than a mini-bit with him as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent with a thing for bows over guns.

#4: No shot of Kat Dennings in a bikini? Running? In slow motion? Damnit!!! Damnit!!! Damnit!!!

Not a spoiler, but I'm positive Anthony Hopkins was standing on a box the whole damned movie.

1. Yes, most defintely not a bad film. Was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Strong performances from all concerned helped overcome some very weak effects. I find that the first film in a superhero franchise always feels a bit rushed or underplayed, even Batman Begins.

2. Nah, I liked his cameo in Season 1 of Heroes, confirming my suspicions that the whole thing was an X-Men rip off.

3. The Macguffin of which you speak is supposed to pop up again in Captain America. Bit of a weak Macguffin too if you ask me. Good to see that

after looking at it in the movie i didn't really get a good look at is so i found a youtube clip of the ending to get a better look, it's just a silver cube of something. but, when nick fury said that it was power, possibly unlimited power i immediately remembered a piece of nerd trivia that i originally learned about from reading a spider-man comic years ago and from watching the lionsgate avengers movie (great movie for avengers fans both one and two i recommend watching them). it's a chunk of vibranium, a fictional element marvel made up (like ademantium) that can be used as a battery to hold a near limitless supply of power. those are my thoughts anyways.

SWMBO determined this was a Mother's Day requirement for her, so off we went.

Non spoiler. A lot of good actors playing B movie stuff. OK, so 1) if you keep the bridge open you blow the planet up you are landing on? 2) Loki is trying to keep the bridge open to blow up Giantheim or whatever; 3) They've had at least one major war with the giants, to the level Odin doesn't want another one; 4) The giants just broke in to try to steal something, then
WHY IS LOKI THE BAD GUY? He sounds like the man with the plan actually. To quote Shaka Zulu " never leave an enemy behind."

I think Capt America is going to go with the Aliens-behind-WWII angle from Ultimates and that the object is an alien power source (like say a cosmic cube?) and will tie into the Capt. America movie. The first Ultimates story arc is reviving Capt. America and the Avenger Initiative fending off an alien invasion, and the second story arc is, MAJOR SPOILER ALERT is the Avenger initiative being dismantled from within and having to fight an anti-Avengers group of Meta-Humans from Iran, N Korea, ect ect) and it turns out Loki was behind all of it and a battle royale on earth between humanity and frost giants and such.

Thats my jump the shark moment. Loki is the bad guy because he wants to remove the threat to earth and Asgard (and presumably other areas). Why?
I thought the script and plot were pretty weak, especially the characterisation of the different characters. Thor reacted in what seemed to me to be completely unrealistic ways to his situations. The effects were okay, but not enough to carry the film, and I didn't enjoy the action scenes that much. Overall, a bit of a meh.
Was the 3D really needed?

the fact that the "Asgardians" (Where did the Aesir go BTW?) appearently have this awesome bridge that doubles as WMD. If the war with the Jotuns really bothered them so much, just leave the darn thing open already! KILL THEM ALL!!

Thats my jump the shark moment. Loki is the bad guy because he wants to remove the threat to earth and Asgard (and presumably other areas). Why? When he learns he's a giant himself-unbelievably- he decides to go the way of his adopted race and end the threat. He sounds like a way better king Than Steroid freak Thor. Its stupid. I mean we didn't not nuke Russia because of some humanitarian mission. We didn't nuke them because they had nukes too.
