2500 pt list. Iron Warriors vs Blood Angels (i think) - help!!

OK, got my first game at a gamign club on Monday night. A bit nervous and would like to make a good impression (ie not get completely tabled)

I think i will be playing agaisnt Blood Angels but i'm not 100% sure.

Here is what i have put together. Feedback and suggestions would be much appreciated

HQ:

DP - wings, MoN, Warptime = 175
Termie Lord - claws, MoK = 140

TROOPS:

10 CSM - Plasmagun, H.Bolter = 175
10 CSM - melta, Plasmagun, IoCG, Rhino (extra armour) = 235
10 CSM - flamer, Melta, IoCG, Rhino (extra armour) = 225
8 Berzerkers - champ, sword, plasma pistol, Personal Icon, Rhino (extra armour, havoc) = 283

ELITES:

5 Chosen - 4 melta guns, Rhino = 165

4 Terminators - 2 combi-melta, Land Raider w/ extra armour, havoc = 380

Dreadnought - TL Lascannon = 125

HEAVY SUPPORT:

3 Obliterators = 225

Vindicator - DP = 145

Defiler - extra DCCW = 150

TOTAL = 2423

So, what do you think? I have a fair bit i can move out or in. I was unsure about the Heavy Support. i coudl either bring 2 defiler, 2 vindi or both. but i only have 3 'Blitz.

Stuff i can swap in:

2 more sqauds of CSM
10 Raptors
1 more Dreadnought (TL lascannon)
10 more Terminators
PA Chaos Lord
PA Chaos Scrocerer
Termie Lord with 1 l.claw and combi-melta
5 more Chosen
2 more Vindicators
1 more Defiler
5 Possessed
2 Spawn
1 squad of Havocs (mix of 2 lascannon, 2 autocannon, 1 missile launcher or 2 H. Bolters)

Also wasn't 100% convinced about 2 HQs or the Dread. Should i drop an HQ and the dread to bring more troops or termies? (i only have 1 Land raider to carry them in though)

Please help me! I dont want to leave this new club in complete shame.

Both your HQ's look pretty solid. The MoN doesn't really fit with the rest of the army, but it's probably the best DP build there is...

I'd recommend getting at least one powerfist/chainfist on your termies to prevent them getting bogged down by a Dreadnought or Monstrous Creature etc. or potentially mephiston in your case! I'm not sold on the Havoc Launcher on the LR either...

I like the chosen in the Rhino, in fact I'd probably recommend swapping the Dreadnought for some more. If you do use the dreadnought I'd put him with the Foot-CSM squad so he doesn't cause too much damage.

I think you should have 2 of either Defilers (my preference) or 2 Vindicators rather than one of either, this way you maximise effectiveness and unit redundancy. I'd probably opt for 2 Defilers to provide covering fire and anti-marine goodness.

Your troops look pretty solid; I'd probably prefer another one or for them all to be in rhinos, but you haven't list yourself as having any more rhino's, but your current lot should do OK. I'm not a fan of EA on rhinos due to it being almost half the cost of the rhino itself, but YMMV. I'd imagine the Land Raider or Defiler/Vindicators bearing the brunt of the firepower however, so I'd probably recommend dropping the EA's. If you can, I'd go for a PF on the Skull Champion to prevent them getting bogged down in CC (like the termies), I don't find Plasma Pistols worth their cost either tbh.
Finally, I'd recommend you have your Rhino CSM's have either 2x Melta and 1x Flamer, 1x Plasma or 2x Melta, 2x Plasma, to maximise their efficiency also. I'd probably opt for an autocannon on the foot-squad too.

A lot of these changes may depend on how competitive you want it to be, but I'd recommend from a competitive point of view, you make it more like this:

- Daemon Prince, Wings, MoN, Warptime
- Lord, Termie Armour, MoK, Claws

- 5x Chosen, 4x Melta, rhino
- 5x Chosen, 4x Melta, rhino
- 4x Termies, 2x Power fist, Land Raider w/ extra armour

- 10x CSM, Autocannon, Plasmagun
- 10x CSM, 2x Melta, IoCG, Rhino
- 10x CSM, 2x Plasma (or 1x Plasma, 1x Flamer), IoCH, Rhino
- 8x Bezerkers, Champion w/fist, rhino

- 3x Obliterators
- Defiler, Extra DCCW
- Defiler, Extra DCCW

SPARE POINTS!

Here, the rhino's will rush forwards, supported by the Landraider, whilst the Obliterators, Defiler and foot-squad provide covering fire. This is only moderately different from your existing list also.

Thanks! I was plannign for the foot sqaud to sit back and hold the home objective, sicne they have no protection moving forward.

I dont agree with the havoc on the LR much either, i built it when i first started playing and didn't really understand the game. And i am loathe to start hackign model apart in case i ruin them. Same goes for the fist on the berzerkers. Doh.

If i knew the person better i woudl just say "pretend it's not there" but it s first time meet so i thought it would be better to play WYSIWYG.

As for the Chosen, i have 5 more models but none of them have meltas (they're basically for bigger games when i think i need more ablative wounds for the unit)

The other Defiler has a havoc launcher rather than a DCCW (it was all i had left after using all the claws and stuff to make a Brass Scorpion)

All your other suggestions, i can go with. Thanks again, hopefully this wont be too embarassing. Lol.

Drop the Dreadnought and the Termie Lord and put another Demon Prince in (same as the first DP). Bring your Khorne Zerkers up to a full 10 and put a powerfist in the squad instead of a power sword.

Pull the autocannon out of the CSM squad and add another plasma. Run your CSM squads with dual special weapons, no heavy weapons. Their on the move, they can't waste a turn sitting still to fire the autocannon.

If your rhinos are really important put Possession on them instead of extra armor. Possibly drop the havoc off one rhino for points.

Otherwise looks pretty good. I'd try to squeeze in more Obliterators if it were me playing, and put all of my troop squads in rhinos.

I'm curious as to why the Zerkers have a personal icon. Are you going to DS the Obliterators?

I dont have another DP model to use. i also don't have a P.Fist for the zerkers. Otherwise this is exactly what i would have done.

Didn't have time to change the list before the battle. i ended fighting a wierd BA list:

3 squads of 5 Sanguinary Guard

Dante with an Honour Guard

10 Vanguard (who never made it to combat)

5 terminators (ditto)
terminator Librarian (who failed his Psykic test 3 times out of 4)

5 Death Company
Lemartes

Death Company Dread (Blood Claws) DP and never got a hit in>

Furioso Dread (frag launcher, p.fist, magna grapple)

Baal Pred (assault cannon, heavy flamers)

Stormraven (Lascannons, Mutimelta, 4 missile things).

I was expecting him to DS stuff but instead he started with everything on the table. Even dropped the Furioso and Termies out fo the Raven on his side of the table to attack one of my Defilers!

I ended up killing everything except Lemartes, Dante, the Pred, termies 4 Sang. uard and the Raven.

We had to end the game early due to the club closing but by that point he had:

Dante (alone)
lemartes (alone)
Furioso Dread
Baal Pred
4 Sangunary Guard
StormRaven
Terminators + librarian

and i had:

2 x 10 marines
Land Raider
Defiler
3 Obliterators
2 Rhinos

I reckong is we had carried on i coudl have had him. I had a Melta CSm squad lines up to shoot at the Termies, the Obliterator pointing at the Raven, LR next to the Prad and Defiler pointing the nasty end at the 2 ICs.
