Help on Painting Good Detail Lines

Hi all,
40K is the first game where I ventured into the realm of painting my own miniatures. My original hesitation was the painting piece of the game since I thought I had no skill. As I come to realize, I am an above average painter, but there is still one aspect or technique that I just can't seem to perform with any skill; Detail Lines.

Does anyone have any tips or techniques you can share that will help someone learn or be able to perform better detail lines? Mine are not straight lines, too thick, or too light/thin that they can not really be seen.

As a side note, I do have a really nice detail brush with a fine point.

okay, disclaimer, I am a bad painter

Imagine this is the edge/corner you want to paint
________
oooooooo|
oooooooo|
oooooooo|

you come in with the brush at an angle so that the side of the brush touches the edge, but nothing else touches anywhere, like this

________\\
oooooooo|\\
oooooooo|.\\
oooooooo|..\\

run the brush along the edge smoothly, it takes some practice so it doesnt come out blocky as the paint on the brush gets expended.
I usually do this VERY lightly, then drybrush overtop with the same color to smudge it up a little.
This way if you dont have the steadiest hands like I do, you can still edge highlight since as long as you dont go too deep or shallow with the brush, there is only one possible point of contact and that point is the edge you are trying to highlight!

remember I consider myself a bad painter XD this is just how I taught myself.
