Grey Knight Techmarine with Conversion Beamer!

A buddy of mine wanted me to sell some of his bitz on eBay, so he brought them over. I totally lucked out as he had TWO actual Conversion Beamers. Busting out my handy Grey Knights Codex, I searched for which unit could wield the beasts.

I've played two games with my GK's now and they seriously lack long range firepower. Any unit I have without teleporters is getting seriously wasted by my opponent's Chimeras and Leman Russ'es. In case you weren't aware, Conversion Beamers can reach out and hose someone up to 72" away and the farther away the better the STR winding up with a powerful STR 10 blast past 60". Well....I had to have one. I'm not trying to plug this thing but if you like him, he is up for sale on eBay and I'm trying to get the cash for parts to build another for myself. I saw a bunch of threads on other forums on how to build a GK Techmarine so I thought I'd share with you guys how I built mine.

I'm pretty proud of him and I'm going to make another with the last CB for my own army.

I think I could do a better conversion job on the next one. I accidentally cut this guy's pinky off with the razor saw. OOPS! Unfortunately, I'm old and the eyes aren't what they used to be so I thought it would be best to leave it alone rather than try to rebuild it with Green Stuff.

I hope you guys like him and if you want to make one for yourselves (assuming you have a CB) I used the techmarine shoulderpad and front torso from I think it was a Thunderchicken pilot, I chopped up a Psilencer to get the forearm and glued it to a different marine arm which I chopped off at the elbow.

The Psilencer arm as-is would have made him holding the CB over his chest and I wanted something different in his other hand. If you don't mind him two-handed hefting it, you can use the Psilencer arms and you probably wouldn't need the Techmarine torso as the gun would probably cover up the Cog symbol anyway.

After consulting with my game group, we all agreed it was legal to give him a CB AND a Nemesis Warding Staff. The Staff is a right-hander model, so I cut the hand out and with a lot of drilling and cursing replaced it with a left hand from the GK kit.

The first backpack was a different one from the Devastator's kit but I snapped that sucker clean in half when trying to place the guitar wire between the pack and gun. It turned out better this way as this backpack has a more natural "plug in" for the guitar wire.

The helmet looked great until I busted out the jeweler's lens and found out the grill was a cleverly disguised Ravenwing symbol. ARRGH! bust out the Milliput and fill'n'file in place (I'd already glued it on, dammit!) So after the third set of pictures I noticed...AAAAAHHH!!! Chaos symbols on the Conversion Beamer. Sigh...bust out the file, small shot of primer, back to my crappy photography. He does look much better 'in person'. I've done more filing on him since the photo to get rid of flashy bits I missed.

Rush job, but I think he looks pretty darn good.

Somewhere on another forum, I saw a guy who scratch-built his CB. It looked great too, like the 'real thing'. If I see it again, I'll post a link up here.

Thanks for reading, I hope you like him. I'm pretty damn proud of him and just had to show him off. I can't wait to build another and actually get to paint it!
Maxim
