Army Transport Options

First off, this isn't a thread about transport vehicles of the armies of 40k.

I have a 600+ model Steel Legion model IG army and am trying to figure out the best solution to my army transporting needs. The GW cases for transport are crap and they do not hold enough and are cumbersome. What are some of the better options available commercially?

Ideally, I'd like to be able to move my army without the help of others in a single box or case that will either fit well in a standard sized car trunk or backseat. I mention that the army is Steel Legion models because they are all metal models and that many models adds up to a good chunk of weight and I would need something that could handle that as well.

I also have somewhere in the vicinity of 40 tanks, mostly Chimera hulled and Russ variants that need to be similarly transported. Once again, GW cases are terrible for this purpose.

Advice on custom foams, trays, cases, army transport, ect. are all welcome as I am unsure what would be best to meet my needs.

As much as I hate to send business Romeo's way, Battlefoam cases are the best that I've used, and I recommend them highly. You do pay top dolllar, but you get a high quality product.

Given the size of your army, and the amount of vehicles, I'd spring for the 1520.

I got one from the WarStore when they had their sale early last fall, and while it's great having something to carry my army with, trying to move it with the wheels is a terrible, awful idea regardless of the type of surface it's going over.

As far as simply holding the minis, though, it does a perfectly satisfactory job.

Army Transport Options

So far the consensus seems to be to get the Sabol Division case. I would prefer something that would actually be able to be rolled or similarly moved without acting as an inebriated seaman. Also, it seems that that is a soft case. Would not a harder case be better as I would like some protection in addition to transportation.

How much does/can the Division case hold? The dimensions listed on the website are next to meaningless to me as I am spatial-dimension challenged kind of guy. What foam would be best to get for Steel Legions models in particular that would fit in such a case and secure the models? I have heard good things about Battlefoam but I would have no idea where to begin.

Maybe it is just me, but I found the Battlefoam site a tad difficult to navigate to find what I would want compared to the Sabol site.

Thanks for the help so far.

The 1520 and the Division would likely hold just as much (assuming custom foam), but the 1520 would be more compact, with better wheels. If time or price is a factor, then go with Sabol, as the 1520 is out of stock until June/July (IIRC) and more expensive. If quality and size is the larger deciding factor, than the 1520 is the better bet.

Some swear by the KR multicase, but I have no experience with it, so I cannot commment. Perhaps someone else can speak to its pros and cons?

Umm I got my case from

http://www.krmulticase.co.uk

There is alot you can get and lots of cheap cardboard cases to hold lots and lots of models.

And if you need to move them (take them to a tournament) then their aluminium cases. They comes in 5 sizes, the biggest one can probably carry (The 1200 can, as its name suggests, carry twelve hundred 28mm troops)

Everything I got from them are great!
