Complete Noob looking to start TROLLS!

Having seen the writing on the spreadsheet I have decided that I will finally take the plunge into Warmahordes
I have always liked the look of the Trollbloods models and cool being one important element was wondering what I would be best served to collect as an army
My local scene is VERY VERY VERY competitive so while I am a noob I would like something that would give me at least a chance at victory after I get the rules down

Can you help me Dakka? I would like a competitive list for 15/20-25/35 point levels
oh one other thing - is the Dire Troll Blitzer any good? Cause I LOVE LOVE LOVE the way the model looks! Other than that I have no preferences one way or another (total noob remember )

cheers

Papasmurf

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Having looked further at the models that interest me, what if anything could I generate using the following

Earthborn Dire Troll
Dire Troll Mauler
Dire Troll Blitzer
Troll Bouncer
KrielStone Bearer and Scribes
LongRiders
Trollkin Sluggers
Trollkin Champions
Trollblood Rune shapers
Fellcaller
Trollkin Hero
and then
Madrak or Hoarluk

cheers

Papasmurf

welcome to hordes. im a warmachine player but i have had stinits in the hordes side of the game a few times over the years.

trolls are a hard hitting faction that really benefit from buffs that they can layer on their units from different support units. the infantry also has tough (think FNP on a 5+) and are usually quite hard hitting.

the blitzer is very good. he is better with some warlocks than others.

Madrak is the beginning warlock that exists in the box set, i have no real experience with him, but looking over his info he is a melee beatstick that supports his army by boosting their combat potential.

Epic Madrak is a beater i have used alot. he likes to maximize on reach troops and weaponmasters and less so on beasts, usually you will see champs, fennblades and longriders with him.

Epic Hoarluk (eDoomie) is a beast warlock that likes alot of beasts. he runs them well and can really manage them well with the help of whelps.

so with therese warlocks maybe you want to start with:

35 points:

Chief Madrak Ironhide
Troll Axer
Troll Bouncer
Dire Troll Blitzer
Trollkin Runebearer
Krielstone Bearer and 3 Stone Scribes
Krielstone Stone Scribe Elder
Trollkin Champions (Leader and 4 Grunts)
Fell Caller Hero
Troll Whelps

this is sort of a meat and potatos list. it brings the champs to handle heavy armor, but madrak can do this as well, so can the fellcaller. the blitzer offers a bit of ranged ability, as can the spray from the fellcaller. the trolll axer has thresher, so that makes him a solid choice to end hordes of infantry, he also has a really good animus.

the only troll warlock i use regularly is Grim Angus. a ranged warlock that has alot of oddball spells and abilities that really screw with the enemy.

Champions are your friends. I take two full units in most games with Borka and they can really lay the smack down upon anything.

I take only two beasts with Kegslayer, two units of Champs, the champ UA hero, a champ hero, two fell callers and a Stone.

Its a crazy amount of Weapon Master and multiple heavy infantry models.

Trolls excel at HTH. Their ranged units can be good but most of the synergies they have work with their melee skill.

That said, you can make them work with ranged units. Grim Angus (warcaster) supports ranged well and Calandra (warcaster) supports most anything because she alters the dice rolls.

You will certainly want at least one tarpit unit to bog the enemies units down. Typically these are Fennblades or Kriel warriors.

Not sure what the rules are about mentioning other sites but there are extensive tactics articles and list building advice to be found elsewhere.

Google is your friend.

J--

I have come across rules and tips that don't work quite the way that they say it does.
