I run gunline nids, as you pointed out, the convenience of nids is that nearly all nids are at least reasonably good in melee, and so steady movement, shooting and assaulting to finish certain units.

In general, nids have fairly productive shooting, especially hive guard, and cluster spines is excellent for hordes, or dumping a few pie plates on units dumped out of transports before assaulting.

Havent used biovores myself, so no real idea how well they perform.

1850 Gunline Nids!?

This isn't a 'gunline' list. It's a good one though - titled "Monster Farm". You're not going to outshoot ANY army, but the hive guard are mobile missile launchers that don't need LOS---You'll have NO trouble cracking transports. At that point your tervigons are best used as "tyranid land raiders" IE - DON'T SPAWN GAUNTS UNTIL THEY ARE NECESSARY! Too often i see a nid player spawn gaunts on the first turn in his deployment zone, get doubles, and then those little buggers accomplish very little the rest of the game. Take a turn or two to move/run your tervigons into position. Then when the time is right, spawn a brood of gaunts, placing the first one 6.9" away (so that.1" of the base is within 6" of the tervigon) then you move them 6", fire fleshborers, and assault with poison/furious charge/feel no pain (all granted by your tervigon babysitter, who ran in the shooting phase to keep up with her babies and grant them those delicious bonuses). As an alternative (and equally useful i might add) - Deposit a scoring unit on every objective in a seize ground game with these 'gant-chuckers. You'll have no trouble claiming objectives if you can outnumber your opponent's scoring units. As an aside, in objective games you have two number-one priority things to kill -- The opponent's troops (because they help him score) and any of the opponent's fast bikes or vehicles (because they can zoom onto objectives and stop you from scoring). Everything else is just ants at a picnic.

All the while your hive guard, tyrranofex, and biovores are laying down suppressive fire on tanks or infantry, respectively. Remember that if you assault a unit that was pinned, you don't take any initiative penalties for assaulting through cover (very important because I5 S4 termagaunts with poison will deal lots of wounds to MEQs if they get to strike first).

It's a pretty solid list, just play a few games with it and develop some good tactics behind the strategies presented. And good luck!

edit - PS - What do you use as a tyrranofex model? I've always used my APOC hierodules (barbed hierodule pictured), and I wondered what the other 'nid players thought was a worthy counts-as for such a large gun-beast.

Also the 2+ armor save of the t-fex makes it nearly immune to missile launchers since they're AP3.

Hey you might consider dropping a hive guard squad to run a brood of venomthropes if you have the models for it -- they're worth their points just from the 5+ cover save you get on your tervigons, but also having defensive grenades really takes the punch out of orks and th/ss assaults if they get the jump on you.
