Help with getting an even coat!

Recently i started a new army and ive been using chaos black primer, Scab Red as the base color and Badab Black as a wash.

all the models look good at a distance but up close the uneven coat really shows.

to be honest i kind of like it, it makes the models look a little grimy and dirty, but i would rather they look like that by choice rather than lack of skill.

what can i do for a more even coat?

sorry for the poor quality of the pics, theyre from my phone.

What paint is giving you an uneven coat?

The best advice would be to spray your undercoat using a black primer spray.
Maybe its the scab red needing a couple more thinned coats to give a solid colour?
Then use the badab black to shade it once you have the solid colour.

Aternatively you might consider using the mechrite red foundation paint as if i remember right, its not too disimilar from scab red. It will give you a quicker route to a solid colour.

Dan

From the look of the pictures its just that the scab red needs a couple more coats.

GW have the foundation paint range, it gives a much more solid colour with a single coat, but is pretty limited with selection.

Id suggest trying a pot of the 'Mechrite Red' foundation paint, with a layer of scab red over the top, should give you a decent finish for tabletop standard for not a lot of extra work.

Dan

You have 2 choices, from now on till the day you stop painting.

a) Stay with GW paints , do 5-6 thin coats to achieve an even look.

b) Use Vallego , do 1 coat and you are done.

Take your pick
