Some GK army lists I want peoples opinions on

#1, looks like lots of other netlists, which means it's probably good.

#2 Crowe can't join units, he's not independent. Dreadknight is a heat-sink in a small list, use it to draw fire and get into assault as quickly as possible, I'd lose both guns for a PT in order to make it move like Jump Infantry. Lose the falchions and get an extra purifier in there.

#3 If you're using a Librarian with quicksilver, that's when you trade in the halberds for falchions. Upgrading a 5 man squad to psybolt is iffy. Smite is the lowest tier ability for the librarian, I'd trade that in for almost any other power, VoD, Warp Rift, Sanctuary, Shrouding... all more effective; leave the shooting to your psycannons.

#4 - You're going nuts with wargear. You need more models. The only reason to play a brother captain is you're trying to save points over a grand master. Lose the upgrades on the Land raider; you don't need extra armor at all in grey knights, you've got fortitude... I'd say play it vanilla and free up all those points, hell, combined with the points you've sunk into your Brother-Captain, you've got enough left over to turn those terminators into paladins, which works if you split your 10 man SS into 2x5.

Im worried about list one because its got 3 squads of 5. seems to me like some easy kill points. In list 2, Ive got the 2 psybolt cannons in the purifiers when its in the rhino to fire out of the fire points.

Some GK army lists I want peoples opinions on

At 1000 points with GK you need to be very careful to maximise firepower, I think. Minimising kill points is generally a good idea because you can often win on them unless the enemy tables you.

List one, I'd tweak thus:

Crowe - 150
10 purifiers: 4 psycannon, 2 hammers, 4 halberds, - 298
5 purifiers: 2 psycannon, hammer, 2 halberds - 149
venerable dreadnought: 2 x TL autocannon, psybolts - 195
venerable dreadnought: 2 x TL autocannon, psybolts - 195

total - 987

Okay, you now have to footslog but you're also only giving away 5 (or 6 if you combat squad) kill points. The venerable dreadnoughts will be tough to kill and will likely net you a good number of kill points when they rip up your enemy's transports. Objective grabbing will be tough, certainly, but the fact is your rhinos will struggle to survive in the original list and contribute no firepower. With this list, everything you put on the table is a threat and demands the opponent attend to it.

List two, as mentioned, is flawed because Crowe can't join a unit (he is nonetheless an excellent HQ, despuite what some people believe -- you just have to use him wisely but aggressively). Also the single dreadknight has poor weapons (one is inaccurate, the other has poor killpower) and will anyway attract every lascannon and missile in the opponent's force. He's too big to hide... you'd probably be better just going for an all purifier list with this.

Crowe - 150
6 purifiers, 2 psycannon, hammer, 3 halberds, razorback w/psybolts - 225
6 purifiers, 2 psycannon, hammer, 3 halberds, razorback w/psybolts - 225
5 purifiers, 2 psycannon, hammer, 2 halberds, razorback w/psybolts - 199
5 purifiers, 2 psycannon, hammer, 3 halberds, razorback w/psybolts - 199

all the vehicles have reasonable firepower (in an anti-infantry sense anyway) and you have 8 psycannon. I don't like the relatively high KPs this force offers though.

List 3 looks like it should be a gunline. So it should have venerable dreadnoughts if they can be squeezed in.

Librarian: sanctuary - 155
5 man Strike Squad: psycannon, razor back w/ TL lascannon - 190
5 man Strike Squad: psycannon, razor back w/ TL lascannon - 190
venerable dreadnought: 2 x TL autocannon, psybolts - 195
dreadnought: 2 x TL autocannon, psybolts - 135
dreadnought: 2 x TL autocannon, psybolts - 135

Total - 1000

The librarian's job is to disrupt assaults using sanctuary, the two strike squads keep deep strikers at bay with warp quake, the razorbacks and dreadnoughts shoot up the enemy transports and then the dreadnoughts eliminate their more dangerous squads as they slog in on foot.

The fourth list seems too much of a mish-mash to me. If it's a terminator assault force then Mordrak should be the HQ and deepstriking. If the ideas something else thenI'm not sure.

Of the four, I actually rather like the gunline (3) best.

Most competitive armies use squads of 5 marines. They are not that hard to kill, but they don't just fall over either.

5 purifiers / strike squad guys with psycannon(s) in a razorback is a pretty great unit.

I'd do this at 1000:

Inqusitor with terminator armor, psycannon, 2 skulls -- 89

5 strike squad, psycannon, razorback, psybolts -- 160
5 strike squad, psycannon, razorback, psybolts -- 160
5 strike squad, psycannon, razorback, psybolts -- 160
5 strike squad, psycannon, razorback, psybolts -- 160

Dreadnought, 2 autocannons, psybolts -- 135
Dreadnought, 2 autocannons, psybolts -- 135

=999

2 Dreads, 20 scoring marines, 4 S6 razorbacks, 1 terminator, lots of storm bolters, and 5 psycannons getting 12-20 shots a turn.

Everything walks in order to make use of their stormbolters and psycannons, taking cover whenever possible.

The squads can start in the razorbacks if they want, for a slight movement boost on their first turn, then disembark into cover and fire.

The squad with the terminator just walks the whole time.

At 1000 points, this is pretty hard to top IMO.

Thanks artemo.
No. Two normal dreadnoughts are better than one venerable. that's why I'd go with the 2 Razorback Strike Squads and a single Venerable Dreadnought and 2 Dreadnoughts.

If you wanted more troops, I'd incline more to a purifier list as you get more psycannon and harder-hitting melee that way.

Or you could run with:

Librarian w/ shrouding, sanctuary, warp rift - 165
Ordo Malleus Inquisitor w/ terminator armour, storm bolter, frag, krak, psyk grenades - 65
2 x Venerable Dreadnought - 390
5 man Strike Squad w/ psycannon, Razorback w/TL lascannon - 190
5 man Strike Squad w/ psycannon, Razorback w/TL lascannon - 190

I'd rather have the three dreadnoughts though, I think.

Some people certainly seem to think GK are overpowered. And it's true that some units (venerable dreadnoughts, purifiers, paladins, dreadnoughts) represent good value compared to choices from other codices (but then one could say the same for Long Fangs, etc).

As many people seem to say 'oh, I'll table any GK list with my space fairies/werewolf wannabes/vampire wannabes/whatever' as bleat about overpowerment.

I think the codex allows a range of builds that can be either or both enjoyable and competitive, and that's a good thing. I played normal Space Marines for years. I've hardly fielded them in the last few months, preferring various paladin lists. I think it's a good codex army-building wise and an army that will always get a reaction from the opponent. And fun too.
