Do you guys have a good way to magnetize, or by some other fashion, the turrets for the rhino so they can be interchangable? I'm refering to the twin liked bolter or heavy bolter (not sure what they're called as I'm asking for my brother) and the tank commander.

Sponsons get magnatized, not turrets. Simply don't glue the turrets in. Gravity does the job well enough. That way you can make as many as you need for various weapon setups.

Re:Rhino Turret Mounts

I've seen Catattafish's tut for sponsons, but that isn't what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the frontal turret on the rhino; I don't mean any missile pod, radar array, or large gun.

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440274a&prodId=prod1080102

The hatch there with the bolter next to it is all I'm referring to. We want to be able to use the gunner or tank commander, while also being able to remove them and use the hatch to give a buttoned up look. We thought about gravity but there isn't much of a lip on there and assumed it would easily topple over.

As to using sprues underneath, we also thought of that but again there isn't much space on the actual "turret" to make a good connection.

Rhino Turret Mounts

Here is what I would do:
razorback turret has the targetting arary, I would drill a hole just partly into the platic where it sits, and then drill into the targetter as well, so it hides the magnet. Then I would take the gun it sits over, drill into that, and hop a magnet in there. Once the top is magetized the rest is easy. You shouldnt even have to magnetize the weapons you put on the pintle/pivot because it stick pretty well.

I can't believe I just eralized this.... I only have one turret left to do this on... I will investigate this myself in a week's time, but I think it will be too much of a hassle....

ChocorateMirk wrote:I've seen Catattafish's tut for sponsons, but that isn't what I'm talking about.

That one was different from the sponson one. But seeing below, it sounds as if it's not that applicable anyway.

I'm talking about the frontal turret on the rhino; I don't mean any missile pod, radar array, or large gun. [...]The hatch there with the bolter next to it is all I'm referring to. In my experience, just placing them on top isn't really a problem during games. Gravity really does tend to work pretty well. Now, on the off-chance you're talking about switching out the doors or the commander from the rims of the hatches...I'd think that would be far more trouble than it's worth. You can get the whole vehicle sprue from the warstore -with 2 of the hatches and assorted other gribbly goodies- for a fiver and save yourself a ton of trouble.

As to using sprues underneath, we also thought of that but again there isn't much space on the actual "turret" to make a good connection.

If you're dead-set on magnetizing, go with sprue underneath, then drill/glue the magnet to whatever you put on the inside of the turret. So, the underside of the doors, or all up inside the commander or gunner's guts.

Then, on the underside of the turret, place the second magnet. there should be a bit of separation between hte magnets so that the pull is not so strong as to rip itself out of the glue. hence the plasticard strip in between)

but gravity does the trick pretty well, so the magnets are un-necessary, unless you have something customised that makes it tip out too easy.
