Red Corsairs - An army of bits, donations and neglect

I've been out of the world a spell. The demands of university, commuting from Portsmouth to Brighton each day and work have limited my ability to make and paint leave alone come onto Dakka. But I am now on my summer holidays and have found myself with some time.

I was talking to a friend the other week while I was looking for some Guard bits for his fledgling force when I commented that I had enough bits accumulated over my 18years of collecting to start a whole new army. He then said "Well, why don't you?"

Why don't I indeed. So I am.

Looking through my bits collection I found an eclectic mix of old and new minis, some forgotten projects while others were simply lost to time. One mini was completely ensconced in dust I could have happily fielded it a Nurgle Marine right there and then. With the huge mix of Loyalist and Chaos Space Marine bits I had I decided I best make a Chaos Space Marine force. I opted to do the Red Corsairs as I felt the mix of bits would suit it well.

And so it began, I started building, stripping and cursing in earnest to create a tabletop quality army over the summer while slowly working on my other projects.

First up to show is a WiP Raptor squad:

The left most Marine is a donation from a friend so I shall be keeping some of the old paint scheme. The middle is an old project I did about three years ago. For some reason it has 8.4 on CMON which has perplexed me so. The right most I kitbashed in a drunken fervour. I used that head and made it a Khorne raptor as that head drew blood from a friend of mine. Since it already had the blessing of Khorne...

The start of a squad of Chosen Marines. The head on the right Marine was an experiment by a friend who rejected it. I took it and have had it in my box for two years. I thought I'd use it as a laugh and found that it worked quite well. So now I'm using a bunch of spare Wehrmacht stahlhelms and hats on a single squad for giggles.

This is a simple squad of Chaos Marines. A few donations in there will be painted with some former Ultramarine colours as the person who gave them to me collects them. As you can tell, when I was very young I tried to make a White Scar army.

I have more pictures waiting and since taking these I have done some more painting. Updates to come.
