painting before assembly advice

I want to paint the parts of individual models before I assemble them, I've found it a complete pain in the bum to paint inbetween weaponry/armour plating, so would rather paint before I assemble.

What's the best way to do this, because I've seen on the GW website that they've got their figure parts on a stand, or whatever it is, how do I do that?

or http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?categoryId=&pIndex=1&aId=9600034&multiPageMode=true&start=2

Thanks in advance

You use a pin drill to make a small hole in the part, then use a paperclip or other such rod inserted into the hole. You can then stick the other end into a cork or similar.

If you doing a squad them mount them in cork or something. A single model you can paint on the drill. Just use an older dill bit that wont be ruined by a bit of paint, and as your drilling on unpainted areas you wont see it doesn't matter that its a bit rough.

I glued the heads onto match sticks with plastic glue and then painted them. It eas easy to break off before gluing them onto the necks, though it needed a bit of cleaning up.

stubacca wrote:...I've found it a complete pain in the bum to paint inbetween weaponry/armour plating, so would rather paint before I assemble.

I agree 100%. For all my multi-part Eldar infantry, I glue torso to legs and paint that separate from arms/weapons/heads. For the heads, I just shove a thumbtack into the bottom of the head. Faster than trying to pre-drill the hole. I'll usually prime it on the thumbtack, too.

Ghidorah
