Hong Kong, what to do, where to stay?

I have to spend 3 days in August in Hong Kong. I know absolutely nothing about the city (apart from that it's "cool"). All my friends who's been there have been there years ago, so their recommendations are kinda sketchy and/or old.

So. If you have any recommendations. Please let me know.

Hong Kong, what to do, where to stay?

Hey, I went over 2 years ago, went to all the typical tourist places eg;

Victoria Peak - Great view of HK, best go at night see the light show on the harbour.

Ocean Park - See some fish, dolphins and pandas!! Got some nice rides as well, prob be more there now as they were still building stuff.

Disneyland - Nothing like hearing disney songs sung in Cantonese.

You can go to Tsim Sha Tsui on Kowloon side great view of the Harbour and HK island. Got a street of stars as well like in hollywood.

You can also go see the big buddha on Lantau Island, there is a great cable car ride up the mountain, some great scenery.

There are lots and I mean LOTS of shopping centres/malls. They are everywhere, some are really cool looking. Go to Langham Place in Mong Kok, the have a massive esculator, goes straight up like 10 floors, felt dizzy when I was nearing the top haha.

There are lots of nice places to eat as well, lots of different cuisine, my girlfriend is a Hong Konger herself so she took me to lots of great places to eat, you should go down the back streets and try places off the tourist path.

I stayed in Mong Kok when I was over, really crowded, dirty, hot...loved it hahaha.

Hope thats given you a few ideas. There is plenty to do, and everything is close, just jump on the MTR and you can be most places in the city in no time.

Man I need to go back

You can look for Hostels as well, I stayed in one. The rooms are tiny, but it was very cheap, had my own room TV and Phone. Hotels can be expensive, but dont expect to have much space, everyone lives in cupboards in HK. You should check hostalworld, read the reviews see what people say about them, for me it was just a place to put my head, but if you want a bit more luxuary, HK has got plenty of Hotels, more expensive on HK side tho.

Seems like I'll be staying near Jordan Station, on the main land, and everyone I've spoken to thats been there kinda echoes what you said "Stuff to do? It's Hong Kong dude!" so I guess I won't have any troubles finding stuff to do. Thanks!

Avenue of Stars is pretty cool.

Play mahjong just because you can.

If you're down with shopping, then you can't do better than Hong Kong, the city is damn near one big mall. I'll second the Mongkok recommendation, Causeway Bay is good too..

Eat as often as you can, the food is amazing.

Really, you can kill three days just by picking a cardinal direction and walking. Hong Kong is like a way better version of Manhattan.

Hong Kong, what to do, where to stay?

If you can find some kind of guide (which judging from how long you'll be staying there, might not be viable), the mountains are really really nice to walk in. There are actually a load of different walks, all round.

There's one with a restaurant in the hills, with legendary tea from the spring water there.

I mostly stayed in the New Territories when I was there (I did go to the inner city reasonably regularly though).
