Why no Scyrah in the rulebook?

Hi, as I can no more order GW stuff to Brazil at ridiculous prices from Wayland or Maelstrom, me and my friends are going into Warmachine (and eventually Hordes too). I've been trying to determine the best products for us to start into it, like which are the factions. And that's where my question comes from: it seems the MKII rulebook came after the Forces of Scyrah book came out - then why there's no section for Scyrah in the rulebook?

Why no Scyrah in the rulebook?

The Retribution book came out sept 2009, Prime mkII just four months later in jan 2010. I think Retribution was brand new faction at the time of their 2009 book. Perhaps they didn't think it needed to be included so soon?

That's all sorta vague and doesn't really answer your question but it's all I got.

Also, Warmachine and Hordes are the same game, their respective battle groups use a different mechanic to preform the same actions, but that doesn't make them a different game anymore than Space Marines and Xenos are different games.

Why no Scyrah in the rulebook?

Part of it is that since the Retribution was so new, there were not very many models for it. Had they given it as many entries in the Prime MkII as they did the other factions, it would of been most of the Forcebook. I think they decided to do it as it was, since that would not make buying both Prime MkII and FoW:RoS have such repetitive content.

And stuff.

Thanks, guys.
Now, after we buy a Battlegroup (or that two-player combo), the rulebook, Faction book, what else should we look for, besides painting stuff and scenery?

I've read somewhere that the Battlegroups are well balanced, unlike GW's starter sets - how many points are there in them?

Re:Why no Scyrah in the rulebook?

Most of the starter boxes are 11 points (except legion and cryx which are 14). That being said they are all relativity balanced against each other.

I usually say 15 points because not everyone starts with a battlebox so its a nice number to aim for. I then suggest 25 points because that usually allows you a full unit of something in addition to the solos.

The only factions without battle boxes currently in production are - mercs, ret, minions. Everyone else has one.

Re:Why no Scyrah in the rulebook?

15 points is about on par with playing 40k at 500 points. Small games with just enough stuff to learn the rules. Once you learn the rules it probably only takes 20 minutes to play.

I would suggest that after the battleboxes you look at the units and solos to expand. A warcaster can usually only handle so many jacks because they run out of focus. Also jacks are generally limited to the casters control range. Alot of people will pick up a 4 point unit for the battlebox. Black 13 for cygnar, widowmakers for Khador, etc. For cryx you could drop one jack and then add a 5 or 6 point unit like bane thralls/knights.

Retribution does not have a battlebox, but I would suggest getting a caster you like, a plastic heavy warjack kit (so you can make whichever you prefer) and maybe a light jack and a unit. I know Mage hunters are a very good and common unit.

I don't know enough of the other factions to really help you out there.

Once you have played at 15 points and get a feel for the game then expand to 25. Then to 35. 35 seems to be a very common points total. It allows you to get a couple jacks, some solos, a couple units. Enough to feel like you can get most of the stuff in that you want. But it is not too big. For example, my 35 point cygnar list had a caster, 3 jacks, 2 solos and 2 units of troops (one of which was only 3 people). My 35 point Cryx list is much larger as I have 3 units of troops and only one heavy jack.

Why no Scyrah in the rulebook?

Scryah are hard to get into because there is no battle box, and no deck you can buy for them.

Best to get the faction book when you are playing at least a month. Very handy to know what things do and plan your games accordingly.

The Retribution battle box is considered to be Kaelyssa, a Manticore Heavy Jack, a Chimera light jack, and a Griffon light jack according to Privateer.

I fully recommend starting at the battle box level. Warmachine takes a little to get used too, and slow building helps avoid a lot of frustration. Warmachine is most certainly a game you can't just hop into.
