Modelling sand

So, I figured I'm going to try my hand at modelling the bases for my necrons. They have a blackish-metal scheme, and I figured I wanted to try and model their bases to look more like a tomb world. To do that, I need black sand. Lots of it.
My question is: where can one such as myself get ahold of alot of black sand for a small price? Many thanks for responses.

And I know it sounds obvious to use sand and black paint, I just wanted to see if there were alternatives that looked more "genuine", I guess.
