As for downside, very few races. As well as discrimination of some races ( like xeno races and their codexes who are 3'rd or 4'th edition while the Imperial ones have 5th edition ).
As for other things - some rather stupid GW moves ( like Suqats being "eathen by Tyranids" and then that Hive FLeet just vanish? Or not giving the copyright to Blizzard but giving them certain rights to make a universe with similar settings ). And some people taking their fan base VERY seriously, like Beef for example: "Tau are the best, trololololololololololol...."
So what do you think?

Ok I am an Imperial fan, that's true... but I don't implement that Imperium will kill all. I am realistic about that.
