They may still surprise us - after all, sometimes they do adopt things they like (such as the Last Chancers characters) - but I wouldn't bet any money on it.

I very much agree on the grimdarkness and all being good, though. Granted, I wish that it wouldn't all be Space Marines all the time, but the game just looks too awesome for me to pass on, and each preview video just increases that feeling.

Theories as to how he will be worked into the 40K Background? do have times for when Sicarius and Agemman were in charge of the 2nd Company - and guess what, they overlap in that they were apparently both in command at 745.M41.

The Ultramarines movie had yet another Captain of the 2nd Company by the name of Severus. We don't have a specific date for him, but his leadership of the 2nd Company must occur after the Imperium's first contact with the Tyranids (as a battle with them is part of his background), which means some time after 745.M41. This is funny because it should be either Agemman or Sicarius who is in command (as Sicarius is said to lead the 2nd company "to this day") ... but wait! There is actually a chance that Captain Severus and Captain Agemman are both one and the same person, for the first name of Agemman is Severus.

Unfortunately, where Captain Severus Agemman gets promoted to lead the 1st Company in GW fluff (thus making room for Sicarius to follow), the Captain Severus in the movie does not and will never get the chance to do so. There goes the continuity.

Now, the computer game is a different case entirely. We don't know yet when the computer game will exactly be set (or do we?). But this is okay, for apparently it's a parallel universe anyways. Also explains for why you get to see some guns in that game that do not exist anywhere in GW's world, such as the Vengeance Launcher.

That's assuming that the movie takes place before the 'current day' in the 40K timeline, rather than after...

The Black Library has moved past the 'current' time in some of their stories. There's no reason to think the movie couldn't have done the same.

If the movie has Marines from the 2nd company and their leader is a Captain Severus, I suppose the writers just mixed up the names and they did not catch the fact that the guy was supposed to survive.

Alternatively, if this is yet another Captain of the 2nd Company, then my point stands in that this bunch is burning through Company Captains like a Sororitas Mistress is burning through Repentia Sisters. That movie is set in M41 as well, after all. More specifically, it must be set after 745.M41 too, for the bulk of his Company is busy fighting Tyranids on Algol and those didn't show up before that time.

But as I said, I think they just made a mistake there. No problem there, GW's stance on movies is probably identical to what they think of the "canonicity" of BL novels.

The movie has been advertised as taking place "in the grim darkness of the 41st millennium", though. And we know Sicarius is Captain until at least its end (999.M41).

I just wouldn't suggest looking for continuity in anything except GW material. Anything from Inquisitorial duties, to a religious sabattical, to deathwatch, or a war wound could explain sicarious temporarily bowing out of the company and a temporary field commission could be given to this Titus charector.

My theory is this- a great game is a great game! If space marine promises to deliver (and it looks like it will) this will open the war hammer universe to a completely different audience that may never have stepped foot in a hobby store. Additionally, this game could also open up the way for future chapters to have campaigns in the single player story game, allowing us to play and interract with some of our favorite character and chapters throughout their history.

Just imagine a downloadable content expansion that puts you as a blood angel during the war for the palace during the heresy, or a salamander or white scar on istvan IV.

While I am completely and rabidly waiting for this game, I am more excited as to what this game can open up for players and experiences than I am the actual game itself.

There is a lot at stake, and it's about time someone showed that war hammer can be great outside of the RTS genre.

We know that Captain Sicarius is captain of the 2nd company in 849 because he's mentioned as such when he's appointed as High Suzerain of Ultramar.

There's 104 years between those two dates when another captain of the 2nd company could have existed. According to his bio he rose through the ranks of the 2nd company. With that in mind, the captain of the 5th company in 745 was called Captain Sicarius who's position is now filled by Captain Galenus. Assuming that this Captain Sicarius is another Sicarius, then that's another captain that has died during that time.
