Magnetic Bases

So I had an idea, and wanted to see if anyone else has tried it or have any ideas.
I'm building some moduler area terrain, tress and stuff. I was think of taking the magnetic sheets the GF9 sells, (http://www.gf9.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=38&products_id=206) and using those to put down, paint and the base. Question though was wondering if anyone knows how well they paint, and how well they can be based, with out effecting the magnetics.

Any ideas?

Rare Earth Magnets might be the better option. I've seen a number of successful projects where trees and columns were attached using magnets. Those little things stick like glue!

The magnetic sheets are garbage. The polarity changes around so that if you use polerized magnetic bases you won't be able to rank up properly. It's also an incredibly weak magnet. Weaker than refridgerator magnets, even.

I'd suggest looking into anothe GF9 product called "rubber steel" and putting magnets into the bases. I do this and it works really well.

Magnetic Bases

Rare earth magnets and pieces of metal.

They are very strong magnets so you don't need one on each end, thus using bits of metal will save you money (copper, aluminum , tin and some stainless steels won't work).

Magnetic tape/sheets is rubbish. I've used some of this stuff that was on a industrial work site (so I'm assuming they don't come much stronger) and it wasn't of much use except to pick up metal shavings.

You can find thin sheet metal and magnets and hobby/hardware stores. I picked up a pack of 100 magnets for like 5 bucks. They are strong enough stick to the sheet metal plates I put under my "Citadel Battle mat". I plan on glueing trees and such to them. You can find odds and ends of thin sheet metal laying around construction sites as well
