A change to Finecast mix?

So put together my new Ogres now, and I noticed that the Firebelly in particular feels more like full on resin than the other Finecast bits I own. Only way I describe it is that it's not as 'wangy'. Could just be the general density of the overall model, but having also built Grotesques, which are similarly proportioned, I'm not inclined that way.

Anyone else noticed this?

'Wangy' ........Really?

Well, I can't speak for the Ogre mini's that are Finecast, but I think it kinda makes sense that the resin GW use for larger models is a different mix than the smaller ones. It just seems more sensible to make larger Finecast mini's from a slightly thicker resin just to stop warping etc...

If that's the case though, why not just use that particular, less 'wangy' mix for all Finecast mini's

Pretty much what I was thinking.

It's just as easy to clean up as the softer mix. It's also a darker grey, but that purely be more dye added to the mix.

That's alright, I pinched it off Deliah Smith. She used it to describe lukewarm, under done toast. I liked it, so I follow her down a dark alley, gave her a shoeing and pinched that particular piece of grammar.

RaptorsTallon wrote:It could well be a GW attempt to combat the warping/melting problems finecast has had.

This may well be the case. But surely GW QC would have picked that up earlier on and said 'Hang on lads, if we add a bit of this to this mix....."

In any case, if this is the route Finecast is going then so much the better. I railed against GW because of the original debacle with the resin mix but I in no way want them to fail. When they improve the resin mix, which seems to be happening slowly, then I will buy more.

A change to Finecast mix?

I noticed that the consistency of the first batch of models was variable. Some were pretty stiff and others were "whangy". (Based on fiddling with stuff in the shop -- I haven't bought any.)

Perhaps GW have now got enough experience with the material to decide on a specific formula and use it consistently.

A change to Finecast mix?

Certainly had no problems with Golgfag, Firebelly or Brag The Gutsman in terms of casting.

But oddly, it's only the main body of the Firebelly that is noticably different in terms of...texture/consistency (not quite sure of the appropriate term) Flamey bit and gutplate are the more familiar kind (with what I assume to be an intentiional 'graininess' to smoke, absent elsewhere). The hammer which is on the third of three sprues, is somewhere in between.

A change to Finecast mix?

I may well be popping into my local GW on Friday. Think I'll ask the red shirts in there if I can have a goosey....

If the material is better compared to the early stuff, I think I'll be making a purchase. I like the look of the firebelly mini a great deal.
