1850 Tyranids

I have always wanted to run a heavy warrior/shrike list, and in the last codex is was viable, but not so much anymore. everything in your army can and mostly likely, will be ID'd. The warrior still has a lot of combat capability, its just that I find they will get ID without any of their abilities being able to shine. Only other thing is the relative short range capabilities of your more powerful shots

Re:1850 Tyranids

"Yes, it’s got ‘shoot me with missiles and lascannons’ written all over it.

Given how easy it is to get cover saves, how many shots does it take to kill the Warriors?

The Warriors usually only have a 4+ cover, but can get a 3+ by going to ground. Since we have so many in this list, if you focus fire from one heavy weapon unit into the Warriors and do lots of Wounds…guess who is going to ground? lol

But in theory, marines firing ML and Las and Multimeltas at Warriors in cover need:

Well, there are 27 Warriors in the list.

So with a 4+ cover save, that’s 54 instant death wounds required.

With BS of 4, you hit 66% of the time.

82 S8+ heavy weapon shots needed. You got that handy?

Yeah, there are still a few units unaccounted for after all that–something no army today can realistically expect to dole out, with possibly the Dark Eldar Raider army. It might dole enough out (well, not really–it only has on average 12 Lances and 9 PC). A IG list can do plenty of damage with Ordnance (Barrage or not) and Vendettas but will find itself not shooting much after a couple turns because they have to literally kill everything in the whole army as nothing is going to run away–and that hurts Guard bad. Ask your local Guard player how they like Fearless CC death with shooty that stuns them, go ahead. lol

Oh, and everyone else?

Sit tight, it’s gonna be one hell of a ride.

You see, Tyranids can run multi-role units (able to damage vehicles, hurt MC, kill infantry) in so many slots across so many units…and this particular flavor of army starts eating you on turn 1 and never stops until it’s dead–or you are.

Given that this list also can destroy just about anything in CC, it’s not a good time to be playing a subpar list. I hope you’ve enjoyed this as much as I have. lol "

quoted Stelek from YTTH

Plus by changing from venom cannons to Stranglers your warriors will have a more specific roll of shooting troops.

Thats my two cents at least.

In reference to what lists will give your old one trouble, 2-3 monolith necrons, LRBT heavy IG lists, Gunline guard lists, foot slogging orks especially if they have pie plates, Space wolves who field 2+ units of long fangs (all of them), and gun line tau to a lesser extent although IG is definitely your biggest competitor.

Re:1850 Tyranids

The problem is that the list is vulnerable to missile fire etc as the broods are too small. 3 warriors/shrikes in a unit with no invuls is a risk from both shooting and insta-kill CC.

Going to ground is only an option when sitting on an objective, otherwise restricting their movement and shooting is worse than letting one of them die, due to how slow the warriors are.

I also don't think the list is that good in CC. You are relying almost totally on rending attacks at I4 to win the combat. Anything with high init and power weapons is going to cut you up. I also don't think your small broods have much chance against terminators.
