How to expand a black reach ork army (new player)

I have a vanilla Assault on Black Reach army with a nob box I bought (Currently I have 3 claws, converted 4 of the black reach nobz to big choppa nobz, one has a waggh! banner I made, one is unaltered (will likely use some green stuff on him as he's just a slugga/choppa nob, and one model left I'm going to convert to a painboy). Not a lot painted but I'm slowly working through the boyz.

I live with and or are friends with people who play the following armies:
Necron
Chaos
Grey Knights
Tyranids
Tau

For the foreseeable future they will be the people I play with and we are likely to not play larger than 1500 point games any time soon. Does anyone have some suggestions for the next few purchases? I have the space marines on the side and wouldn't mind getting another black reach box so I have a reasonable side army along with more boyz and three more deffkoptas.

Thank you for the help

Do you still have the SM part of the black reach boxed set? If so its easy to swap it for orks. I would do so, and double your army.

After that get $5 and head to the hardware store and pick up 18 1/2" pvc pipe fittings. Glue them together and you have the start of 9 killa kans. while your there look for other bitz like screws and such that would make good weapons or parts to trucks.

They boys I've painted so far haven't posed too much of a problem and have been enjoyable to paint, and they have turned out nicely, so a boy army (despite it's vastness) wouldn't be the death of me. I am hoping to find suggestions of a collection path that would let me have a flexible enough pool to fight Tau, Necron and Grey Knights as those are the three people I'll be playing most in the near future.
How to expand a black reach ork army (new player)

I'd say more boys, like 60 more, put nobs in each one with a power klaw and always run them in thirty, maybe put some in a trukk but always use a nob, lootaz are great but always run them in squads over 11 for mob rule. KFF Mek is never a bad HQ. Burnas in a battlewagon is very scary but very fun at the same time. Always run more then one vehicle or it will die. Always give the battlewagon a deff rolla and some bigshootas so the opponent can't make you immobilized from a weapon distroyed result. Some kans would be good but don't give them skorchas, it's a waste of BS3. And bikes are fun and great. Give them a nob and run at least 9 to be a scary unit

If the enemy gives one unit 8 wounds them the extra three are going to waste, and if one fails a morale check then you have ten left to play with. If you use your kans to shield your boys then they get a 4+ cover save, rather than resorting with the 5+ KFF save or the 6+ armour, then the kans can get a 4+ KFF save, as they are vehicles.
How to expand a black reach ork army (new player)

I did this in a very easy way. go to ebay and buy a gak ton more boys from other Assault on black reach box sets that have been broken out. I was able to walk away with 90+ boys for a very resonable price. Then buy yourself one box of nobs and then you will have about 3 squads of 30 boyz and each one will have a nob with a powerclaw. pretty cheap way to build the basic blocks of an orc army.

Also since orks are so versatile from a model perspective, see if you can trade the marine models you got for some rhinos, or other imperial vehicles. Actually any vehicle will do and boom, you have looted wagons that you can orkify.

If you buy the Deff Dread kit you get lots of great bits aswell, check my blog (link in sig) for pics of my looted Deffy.

Also, collectionwise I would recommend getting atleast 90 Boyz, that's a great number for alot of fun lists (except Green Tide lists). I second the general consensus of Loota groups of 5 or 15, but basically any group with their leadership in mind works OK, not good or great, they work OK.

Kan-Wall is a very scary list at games up to 1500 pts, after that it starts to have problems scaling up where the BW-spam lists really start to shine.

Also, how competitive are you aiming for? That is something that really affects an Ork army IMHO.

And finally a fun tip: For fun modelling buy a box of gretchin and box of Imperial guard heavy weapons team and let the Big Gunz begin

Disclaimer! Big gunz are kinda meh in the game, but realy fun to model.

Oh! And buy a Big Mek with KFF (Kustom Force Field) or 2. I did that for my orks and since I play Death Skulls it fit the fluff.

Yeah, I did the same!

They rock in almost any list.

Not sure how competitive I'll be in the end. I like the painting and will likely just playing with my friends who are also playing 40k in the near future. There is a local game shop who hosts games fairly often and I will eventually participate.

Trust me, alot fun can be had even loosing with Orks In that case, I recomennd buying the kitz that look coolest! Thats basically what I do, 'cept I bought a Battleforce after AoBR - don't do that.

Nobz are a great idea, so is Big mek. Another AoBR set is a smart idea but if you have the cash you should get boy boxes for all the fun bits.

All big Ork kitz are a BLAST to build! Kanz, Dread, Trukk and Battlewagons, yeah, their great fun.
