Help with Tyranids 500-1000pts 4E/5E

Until now I've played almost exclusively against a small group of friends that are only available to play about three times a year, so I finally decided to find a local group that meets regularly to give the Great Devourer the prey it desires. The only real hurdle is that my friends and I still play 4th Edition, the decision basically coming down to the fact that it had almost no new rules that we liked.
So now I'd like help figuring out how to rework my army list under the new codex without making any major changes to the core units, since I spent a lot of time on my composition and I'll still be playing against my friends. Also, if anyone has any advice regarding my 4th edition list I'd love to hear that too.

In addition to overcoming the new codex, I also have to deal with not knowing what I'm going to be facing, until now I've pretty much only faced a basic marine force aided by IG and/or Tau allies (in other words nothing that poses much threat in an assault) fielding a maximum of two vehicles.

Core:500-600pts

1 Hive Tyrant
Venom Cannon
Barbed Strangler
Enhanced Senses
Psychic Scream
140pts
If the game was 500 points I'd leave this guy out and replace him with extra Spine Gaunts or a Ripper Swarm

6 Warriors split up into 2 Broods
Scything Talons
1 Venom Cannon
1 Barbed Strangler
2 Deathspitters
1 Devourer
1 Rending Claws
160pts

2 Broods of 10 Gaunts
Spinefists
100pts

2 Broods of 10 Hormagaunts
200 points

Additional Units: Up to 492pts

1 Hive Tyrant
Wings
2 sets of Scything Talons
Psychic Scream
141pts

6 Ripper Bases (sometimes divided into 2 units)
60pts

1 Zoanthrope
Psychic Scream
Catalyst
50pts each
Used with rippers to greatly increase chances of enemy fall back

1 Zoanthrope
Synapse Creature
Warp Blast
65pts

6 Genestealers
96pts

2 Raveners
Scything Talons and Rending Claws
80pts

Additionally I also have 20+ Termagaunts, a Broodlord, way more Genestealers than I'll ever use, one of the older, much smaller Carnifex models, 12 spore mines, a Biovore, and a Lictor which will probably never see combat. I don't mind buying a couple extra units, but I'd like to try to keep the cost below a hundred dollars.

For my core I was thinking I might try something close to my current one, using a Tyranid Prime, 20 Termagaunts, 20 Hormagaunts and either 5 warriors or a brood of Genestealers with a Broodlord.

I've tried to ensure that I have as wide a variety of units to fill each role as possible in order to confuse my opponent as to what each of my units is trying to accomplish and which target to prioritize. A good example of my usual tactics would be to spread the Gaunts and Termagaunts over the center and part of a flank (let's suppose the left) so that they cover my Warriors (center) and Zoanthropes (left) and can charge as many enemy units as possible by turn 2, giving me temporary control of a significant portion of the board while they are locked, meanwhile the warriors come up right behind the guants and the Zoanthropes and the shooty Tyrant slowly advance on the left flank while the winged Tyrant will rush on the open right flank, the rippers would either move with the Zoanthropes, or come in just in front of the warriors and draw out the combats in the middle, meanwhile the Genestealers and Raveners would be deployed wherever they would be most likely to do damage. Ideally I want to lock the front ranks of the enemy by turn 2 and keep them fighting through at least two enemy turns, providing cover and reducing enemy fire so that my real offensive power is totally focused on the guns and armor that would likely tear me apart if I simply rushed the first line with powerful close combat units.

Well....step one is that you aren't using the right codex so you probably won't be getting any games in. Get the new codex and build a list based off of that

The one you want is:

yes I realize that my current list is from the old codex, I already have the new one (which I've read over quite a bit) but I'm still not sure about how best to convert my current list over to the new codex

At anything less than 1,500 points there are only 2 viable HQ choices, tervigon and prime. Hive tyrant is too expensive at say 1,000 points as you have 25% of your army in one model.

For 1,000 points you can't beat something along the lines of:

HQ tervigon, TS,AG, catalyst 195

EL 2 hiveguard 100
EL 2 hive guard 100

TR tervigon, TS,AG, catalyst 195
TR 10 termagants 50
TR 10 genestealers, TS 170
TR 10 genestealers, TS 170.

For hive guard use converted warrior models. Tervigons are based on carnifexes.

You could also drop the stealers for a 3rd tervigon and extra gants for total fun ...
