1750 wolfs, not razor spam!

So I haven't played in a while and thought I would dust off my wolfs for a try. Trying to build a competitive 1750 list that I could expand to 2k. Didnt want to go the standard razorback spam route that everyone loves though.

Hows this?

Wolf lord, thunderwolf, fist, shield

3 wolf guard, fists, combi meltas.

9 grey hunters, rhino, wolfen, standard, fist, melta.
9 grey hunters, rhino, wolfen, standard, fist, melta.
9 grey hunters, rhino, wolfen, standard, fist, melta.

2 thunderwolf cav, fist
2 thunderwolf cav, fist

5 long fangs, 4 missiles, razorback
5 long fangs, 4 missiles, razorback
5 long fangs, 4 missiles, razorback

I thought the razorbacks could help screen the rhino's advance delivering the 30 infantry into the heart of the enemy. Not much can stand against them if they arrive at full strength. The cav (5 of them) can advance using the rhinos as cover and then support the infantry. Against vehicle heavy armies their multiple str10 attacks will be awesome at bringing down 3 vehicles a turn.

Sadly I was only able to fit 12 missiles in the army. I can drop one thunderwolf cav unit for a squad of scouts with wolf guard, comes out to the same points but I like having the redundant thunderwolfs.

Thoughts? What will give this the most trouble.

I would be tempted to do the following: Drop 1 pack of Thunderwolves and a Grey Hunter from each of the Grey Hunter Packs. Additionally, I would drop the Power Fists from the Grey Hunters.

With all of those points, get a Rune Priest, otherwise against Grey Knights, you can kiss those Wolves goodbye.

With the remaining points, splurge on some shields for the Thunderwolves and a little gear on the Lord. That way you can take a few Power Weapon attacks before going down.

You absolutely need a Rune Priest. Not having one is practically handing your opponent a win if they are playing GK. You will need to keep that RP near the TWC as well. Force Weapons, when activated, chew through TWC so nullifying the FW activation with the RPs Runic Weapon will be key to getting through GK units. Beware of Halberds in Purifier Spam lists as well.

Besides adding a RP I would echo the suggestions of Unholy.

I was trying to keep the thunderwolfs cheep by leaving out the shields (there are only two and they have cover the first couple turns). Also, with only two guys either they both need the shields or neither does, otherwise the shooting screws with you. The lord on the other hand needs his shield.

Razors have heavy bolters, keeping em cheep as they are basically cannon fodder.

I suppose I could drop one thunder wolf unit and one guy. This gives me enough points for a shield on another thunderwolf, a runepriest, and two wolfs for the lord (extra wounds from shooting). The extra wounds can help me through medium level shooting.

Im not really worried about hugely expensive paladin squads of small purifier squads. The grey hunters can dominate them. However, the 8-10 man purifier squads are cheep enough and can destroy grey knights without worrying about giving up their points to the counter charge the following turn.

Another option I just thought up. I can drop the wolf lord and one guy. This gives enough points for a wolf priest and a unit of scouts of thunderwolf cav. The scouts are probably better but lack redundancy.

This army is seriously lacking long-range anti-tank and those 3 LF squads wont last long. You need to distribute your fire power. Id add a pack of scouts with a WG (power fist combo-melta) to give you that extra punch. Maybe consider dropping the thunder wolves for some speeders with mm,; as well as upgrading those razorbacks to twin-las. Heres my own personal list though...

Rune p. - Living L., Jaws, chosen of the s.- 110

Elites

3 Wolf G. - Power fist, Combi-m- 129

5 Scouts- melta - 85

Troops

7 Grey hunters a - melta gun, rhino, wolf stand.- 155

7 Grey hunters b - melta gun, rhino, wolf stand.- 155

5 Grey hunters c - melta gun, razorback- twin las -155

5 Grey hunters c - melta gun, razorback- twin las -155

Fast attack

Speeder- multi m - 60

Speeder - multi m - 60

Heavy support

Pred- Heavy B.*2 - 85

6 Long fangs a - 5 missiles,/ Razorback- twin las - 215

5 Long fangs b - 3 missiles. 1 las c. - 130

Having alot of my firepower spread out makes it harder for the opponent to prioritize. And also if i loose my longfangs ive not lost everything. Of course you dont have to follow this list but id advise that you at least keep the RP and grey hunter squads how they are.
