Your preferred method for painting Orks?

I've picked up Assault on Black Reach, i'm going to paint the Orks and my little brother will do the Marines. I'm worried about doing the skin on the Orks, I found a few methods from searching but there doesn't seem to really be an agreed upon method, everyone does it differently so I picked up a few different paints for it -

Goblin Green, Dark Angels Green, Scorpion Green.
Washes wise I have badab black, devlan mud, thraka green, ogryn green.

I'd like them to turn out quite bright green, but not crazy neon green.

I'm thinking prime black, a couple thin layers of scorpion green then wash with thraka green to darken it and highlight the muscles etc, will that work? how did you do yours?

I use a modified paint scheme from Irondog Studios. I use GW Knarloc Green foundation paint for the skin over top of a Krylon Camo Brown basecoat. I know brown but I fine that it is the best for orks. The pants stay brown, the shirt and tounge is either blood red or Mechrite Red. Boots black, metal Boltgun and leather Snakebite. Eye are Blazing Orange and claws and teeth are bleach bone. Then a coat of Badab Black and you are done. The wash covers most of the mistakes.

Just use several different methods, to add variety to your army. It also makes sense fluffwise (I'm not an expert in this so bare with me) : Orks get darker skin and get bigger the more they fight (or was it the older they get?).

In the ork codex it makes no mention of orks getting darker as they get bigger. (They get bigger from fighting and winning said fights) In the book Xenology however it states that orks do get darker skin as they get bigger as the fantasy orks do.
So either way goes.

I think I like snakebite leather + devlan mud wash for the clothing, but what should I do with the straps? I figure they'd be brown aswell but it'll blend in with the armour too much.

also are the assault on black reach miniatures less detailed than the normal ones? it seems like some of the straps don't go anywhere, they just go into the clothing without any defining lines separating them

Re:Your preferred method for painting Orks?

i do a basecoat of orkhide shade, then i do a heavy drybrush of goblin green followed by a light drybrush of scorpion green. then i wash it with thrakka green and im done. sometimes i leave off the scorpion green or substitute scorpion green with goblin green in those steps. i like them to be bright, but if you vary the skin tones slightly it makes your army have a more realistic feel, cause i mean some orks might enjoy sunbathing you never know
