Assaulting between Mangler Squigs

this came up recently,

My unit wanted to call a charge towards a large block of Savage Orcs, but he had placed the Mangler's to the side and in front of his block. however there was a large gap between squig units, more than enought o get through and reach his block. I rolled and got more than what I needed to reach him.

now this were the hick up happened, as I read it in the Main Book, he had to move to meet me as defined in the Unusual Situations (Pg22 or 21 in the Main Rules). I assaulted between the two units, and had to avoid touching any other unit, the picture in the book was also close enough to be similar to the current situation(the Riders charging through the rocks). he argued instead that I had to swing and bring my unit over his Squigs, which would result in them tearing into my unit.

now did I make a bad call, or was I right in disagreeing?

Re:Assaulting between Mangler Squigs

Unusual Situation is for impassable terrian, or one of your units. The squigs is a unit that cannot be charged and models can move into contact with them. (O&G book, pg56, Force of Total Destruction). You can try to wheel pass one of them but need setup to maximize models on close the door. Yes you would close the door over the squig units and taken the damage.

If it was a friendly unit to the side then pg 22 would be in effect. If it was a enemy unit other then the squigs you would have to declare a charge aganist all both units if you make contact with both of them. (pg 19, Charging more than one unit).

Assaulting between Mangler Squigs

Just had a similar dispute with a friend of mine (in that case it was fanatics, but the rules are very similar). Artee is correct: you're allowed to do any wheeling you want to to contact the enemy, as long as when you arrive and close the door, the number of models in contact is maximized. With units of equal sizes, this gives you a very limited range of motion, although if you were, say, a chariot charging a horde from in front, you'd have more options.

Assaulting between Mangler Squigs

Just to clarify, you can't do any wheeling you want. You can do ONE wheel, then close the door.
You must maximize as much contact with the charged unit as possible. If that means standing on a mangler squig, you stand on it.

-Matt
