Historical Gaming: Wargames Factory and or Gripping Beast Vikings?

Since I first saw the post of Wargames Factory's Viking Hurscarls on Dakka, I've intended to purchase both plastic box sets from them the Hurscarls and Bondi. I've also since found Gripping Beast produces a plastic box set of Viking Hirdman which looks to be of a good quality as well. The only reason I waited so long is I first wanted to get a Viking Longship done by Revell Germany in 1/50 scale, which I just now procured. According to my calculations, it will be a bit bigger scale wise but not noticeably that much larger than either of these 28mm figures. (Wargames Factory actually shows their figures are 1/56 scale which really makes the difference moot IMO.)

Anyone presently purchased these and can give some feedback on the quality? Pros and Cons from the two manufacturers including service and shipping? Also, what are some of the better 'historical' game systems on market? I know GW produces a historical ruleset but since I'm starting from the ground up, gaming wise, I'd like input about other systems as well.

Gripping Beast is going to have an edge in sculpting quality. You can pick them up in the US at http://www.architectsofwar.com/grippingbeastplasticvikinghirdmen.aspx for $32 per box, or 73 cents per figure.

For WGF, a place like the Warstore may be the best option with a discounted price. http://www.thewarstore.com/product53506.htm
$16 per box or 50 cents per figure.

As for rules, you will be spoiled for choice. Gripping Beast just released Saga - which is a skirmish scale Viking game. I have not seen the rules, but first shipments to distributors sold out quickly.

Wahammer Ancients with the Shieldwall army book is (or was) a popular option. Depending on who plays in your area, you may also see Clash of Empire, or War and Conquest.

At the moment, I prefer Hail Caesar as a mass battle game. It's fast moving, easy to pickup & becoming quite popular if you follow various ancients blogs.

There are dozens more games for this period - should not be too hard to find additional reviews.

Thanks for the info! The review was just what I wanted to see as I'd already planned to get both GB and WF vikings just to have the variety. I'll have to look more into the GB ruleset they just released as well.
