Tips on aggressive Tank players

I got a question for those who are like me - when I play I am very aggressive I want to get into combat (or shooting position) as soon as possible, now here is the question which tanks and their variants (from hellhounds to the leman russ) offer the best aggressive tank playing - I mostly play with troops little or no vehicles and I wanted to see if I could make a vehicle horde army (I am thinking either 9 leman russ tanks or 9 hellhound tanks or even both 18 tank heaven) hopefully I could use this in a 2500 point game and HOPEFULLY it could still offer me a fun aggressive gameplay and still be effective scary to compete against

from looking at the imperial guard book would taking 9 Demolishers seem like a balanced and aggressive and effective list? obviously supported by weak imp troops.

I think you would want more than just Demolishers. Some standard ones and Executioners could be used to have some variation.

Tips on aggressive Tank players

Well, as far as Russes go I am assuming you want some demos since they're pretty close combat I suppose but I would also mix in Standard LRBTs as well as executioners since theyre amazing (although expensive for the exec.)

For hellhounds it depends. If you want to do hellhounds and youre playing against MEQ, I would do mainly banewolf since they're AP 3 and hit on a 2+. Against everything else, probably just the standard with the inferno cannon will be fine.

Re:Tips on aggressive Tank players

Squadron rules really hurt bringing any more than three tanks to a game.

That said, if you really want to do it, I highly recommend taking three tanks of the following pattern: Vanilla, Demolisher, Executioner. Don't take sponsons if you play aggressively. If you are taking full squadrons, the biggest thing you need to worry about are units with multiple melta weapons and fast assault units that can pen your rear armour.

To minimize your casualties in assault, always move your tanks at least an inch. This is why I don't advocate sponsons. If you upgrade to lascannons on the hull, give the whole squadron lascannons.

I've found standard Hellhounds to be the best of the three variants. Give them either heavy bolters or multi-meltas. HMMs give them a dual threat role, while HHB keeps with the range advantage of the inferno cannon. HHF are not great seeing as you have to get super close, defeating the purpose of the inferno cannon.

I don't advise taking minimal troops, but if you want the most combat tanks, here's what I'd do.

CCS - 4x Melta

Vet Squad - 3x Melta, Chimera
Vet Squad - 3x Plasma, Chimera

Hellhound - Mulit-melta
Hellhound - Mulit-melta
Hellhound - Mulit-melta

3x Leman Russ Battletank
3x Leman Russ Demolisher
3x Leman Russ Executioner

Comes out to 2420. Use the 80pts for...something.

The most competitive tank lists have only three un-squadroned tanks, supported by three un-squadroned hellhounds, with maxed out mechanized veterans and CCS. Maybe a PBS or two. But then again, nine Russes would be fun.

*Edit* 750 posts! I am now a Legendary Dogfighter!

Re:Tips on aggressive Tank players

I'm *personally* not a huge fan of hybrid lists, and I advise against Primaris Psykers because CCS are just too good.

Honestly, if you want to keep the Hellhounds and the Russes, you don't have enough points to bring an effective two 20-man blobs with power weapons, meltaguns, and a commissar plus the PCS.

You could drop the hellhounds and potentially do it though.

I think Pask is a waste myself, especially when all the tanks are blast weapons.

Tips on aggressive Tank players

A Pask Punisher or Exterminator is not so terrible.....but again in this context its irrelevant.

The only think i will say is that as "fun" as 9 Leeman Rus are, you can still only engage 3 Targets per turn with your 9 tanks, and SQN rules will hamstring you like crazy....

And in any sort of objective game it wont be hard to just pick apart your troop choices, leaving you scoring unit less, and leaving your opponent with a few turns of find creative ways to kill this tank
