Phoenix Guard Dilemma!

Just finished putting together my squad of 20 Phoenix Guard, When I went to set them up on the movement tray I noticed that the cloaks they wear stop any other models standing next to them. So now the unit looks a complete mess when there together.

Were the GW design team replaced by monkeys when these models were put into production or is there a way I can fix this?

There are many units that don't rank up very well (Empire Halberdiers are by far the worst offenders).

My usual recommendation is to rank them up as you're building them. Glue the bodies to bases and make sure they fit alongside each other as you go. Leave the weapons off until this first phase is complete. Once the bodies are ranked up nicely, you can repeat the process with the weapon arms.

In your case, I would carefully remove each model from the base with a modelling knife and start again.

Even moving these models to different positions on their base won't solve that problem, their cloaks prevent them from standing next to each other. It's not the weapons that stop them getting next to each other.

I would recommend dunking them in superclean and starting from scratch, but I'm unsure of what they sell in your area, but yeah, you can either pop em off and put em back on, or do some cutting.

Thing is, with something like superclean, if you use that you might as well reglue everything because it's going to weaken all the glue on the entire model.

Hope you didn't use plastic glue.

Re:Phoenix Guard Dilemma!

You are supposed to have them at an angle with their left foot forward on their base and the right to the back.

I have found that it is best to individually make sure that a model doesn't interfer with the models he is adjacent to, and then go down the line doing the same.'

then you will have to number your models so you can rank them up every time you use them.

I did this with 20 Chosen(mixed plastic and metal models) and it was a pain, but it did help significantly.

This may too after the fact but- if you used super glue you can try to get the model from the base (very carefully) using a blade. I use super glue to glue all my models to their bases for this reason.

Like said above, put all the bases together and balance the models to see the position they need to be standing in. (assuming you can get the models off without too much carnage)

DE Corsairs are also a nightmare to make sure they rank up.
