hey guys

I've run in to a bit of a problem with my varnish coating,
I sprayed a gloss varnish layer (Mr hobby Mr. Super Clear Gloss)
followed by a matt layer (Mr hobby Mr. Super Clear Flat)

In regions where the gloss accumulates, (corners and between raised areas) the coat dries up
an appears to show air pockets, as shown in the pic below.

notice the zag pattern in the head of the bike?

anyway I can fix this?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Post in the wrong section, pls remove thanks!

I'm not certain but you could be holding it too close to the model so theres too much going on to the model, try to make quicker passes or from a further distance.

It sounds like the first coat might be going on a bit thick or you're not allowing it to dry completely before applying the second coat. Typically, it's always good to let any coat of varnish to set overnight before continuing.

What they said ^. However on this example it doesn't look too bad. Instead of trying to strip the model, why not just wash them with some devlan mud? The white areas will turn brown, and look like accumulated dirt, not too un-orky.

And then maybe you could highlight them with a brown colour. Perhaps it'll make your model look even better! btw, I like the lab coat.

Re:Trapped air between varnish, help!

http://www.mohawk-finishing.com/catalog_browse.asp?ictNbr=256
This stuff (Mohawk super blush retarder) is great at removing blushing (when moisture / humidity / air is trapped in your finish). It's basically a spirit that will disolve the finish and let it set properly. This works if your finish is already dried but it might take a few applications. Once applied, let it completely dry before applying another coat (if needed).

It's amazing how often this problem comes up and I rarely see this as a solution. If you don't have access to purchasing this (I found it at a cabinet supply company but check local DIY stores) then you can try using Mineral Spirits or White Spirits in small, localized applications with the same results. Just apply via brush to the area once and don't retouch it until it's dried...

Good luck, hope this helps!
